Slack Key ʻOhana is a Kaleponi (California) based guitar trio with an ever-expanding roster of guest talent rotating in both studio and live performances. With a “Tiki” Waikīkī 1940’s vibe, they blend Hawaiian melodies with Beach Boys-style harmonies, using old school recording techniques. The band's first self-titled album debuted at number two on the iTunes World Music Charts, featuring cover artwork painted by Tom “Thor” Thordarson, a Hawaiian artist known for his work on Disney projects. The record won Best World Music Album at the 2022 San Diego Music Awards. Their 2024 album Hawaiian Cowboy album includes guests Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and four-time Grammy-winning slack key guitar master George Kahumoku Jr. They were just nominated for Best World Music Artist at the 2026 San Diego Music Awards and they have a new single out, “Slack Key Blues (Ha’ina Hou),” in advance of their upcoming third full-length, Mai Tais In Paradise, due in late summer.

Punk Rock Rodeo at the Holding Company
March 20-21
Pacific Beach punk favorites Wanted Noise recently released a new single for “Burn the Time Away,” from their upcoming studio album Easy Listening. They first earned critical attention with their 2017 release Plate Lunch, which they followed up with their skate-punk-driven 2022 album Next Generation. In recent years they launched their own DIY touring concept, Hit the Slopes, Hit the Stage, a punk-rock snowboarding tour merging live shows with mountain weekends. The band will join surf-punk pioneers Agent Orange and a stacked lineup of underground favorites in OB for day one of this year’s Punk Rock Rodeo. Co-curated by Slabratoy, the 21+ event kicks off at 5 pm and also features Screamin’ Yeehaws, Change Today (Joe Wood playing songs from his ten years with T.S.O.L.), McRad, Big Attitude, Galaxy Wolf, and DJ Catkiller spinning on the second floor of the venue. Day two on March 21 includes a noon matinee with Battalion of Saints, DPI, The Yucks, Fang, Hamapple, Mersa, and Subversive Intent. The evening show features punk icons FEAR, along with The Freeze, White Kaps, Since We Were Kids, and Big Attitude.

Jason Graham at Duke’s La Jolla
March 22
“I specialize in playing fun covers in a wide variety of genres,” says Jason Graham, who grew up studying music and performing in the Midwest. Known for his high-energy solo sets that blend pop, rock, folk, country, and top-40 hits, he uses live looping technology to create a dynamic one-man-band experience. “I have been lucky enough to travel the world playing music on cruise ships for the past few years,” he says of the four years he spent traveling and performing with Norwegian cruise lines playing six shows a week, three to four hours a night. Now married and newly settled in San Diego, he’s become a fixture at area nightclubs, hotels, and restaurants, including the Hotel Del Coronado, Barleymash, Andaz, Union Kitchen & Tap, Cannonball, Fairmont Grand Del Mar, La Valencia Hotel, and the Bahia Resort Hotel.

Peter Sprague Group at CSU San Marcos
March 24
Peter Sprague was eight when his family moved from Cleveland to Del Mar, where surfing and music became, as he puts it, his “life and religion.” He picked up the guitar at age 12, studying with San Diego jazz guitarist Bill Coleman. He turned to jazz and formed the Minor Jazz Quintet with like-minded schoolmates. Following a year of study at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Sprague studied with Pat Metheny in Boston and performed with Chick Corea’s band. Sprague began his recording career in the late ’70s, with several releases on the Xanadu label before moving to the larger Concord Jazz Records and others. A longtime fixture of the local scene, it’s certainly no secret that Sprague loves jazz. But he also digs deep into musical history and unearths some sonic gems from the Beatles, Jimmy Webb and Brazil’s Antonio Carlos Jobim. For this concert, he’ll connect with vocalist Allison Adams Tucker, pianist Danny Green, drummer Duncan Moore, and bassist Mack Leighton for an evening of good sounds, good vibes and good times.

March 25
Originally featuring members of Some Girls and Dead Ghosts, Secret Fun Club began as an experimental bass and drum noise group that uses old-tube electronics and modern computer sound manipulation. Drummer Sal Gallegos (Some Girls) co-owns Three One G Records with Justin Pearson, and bassist John Rieder has a long local history as a school teacher. Their song “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” featuring Carrie Gillespie Feller (Hours, Ilya, Hexa) appeared on a Cramps tribute album, Really Bad Music for Really Bad People, which also includes tracks from fellow locals Retox, Qui, and others. The Little Italy show is headlined by local garage punk rockers Hooch, on a bill that also includes Circular Arcs, a project featuring members of Secret Fun Club which has released largely improvised music on Bandcamp.
