What The Hell Are These? People keep asking me as if I know everything. I know a lot, but not this. Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of the green squares on the newly redesigned Coast Hwy. lane #2?

Ken, When I rode the free bus from the Solana station to the fair, the driver said those squares are for bicyclists. Some of us passengers were doubtful, but a male passenger said that cyclists ride in packs and this helped them do that. It still didn't seem to make sense; I'll watch this page to see what others say.

Those are lanes that are designated for bicycle riders (single, not just packs) to use in the traffic. Therefore cars cannot pass them in those lanes and bikes can legally (and more safely) ride in the middle of those lanes. This keeps them safe from car doors opening, and backing up cars.
