My music style ranges from pop, blues, and jazz. I play your favorite covers from some of your favorite artists, but make them my own.” Among the artists covered by Cruz are Sade, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole.

Rachel Jay at L’Auberge Del Mar

Rachel Jay plays a variety of original music and covers of artists like Amy Winehouse and Norah Jones. Her own music incorporated elements of jazz, R&B, folk, and pop, and can be likened to classic singer/songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Eva Cassidy, and Norah Jones.She released her debut EP Hung Up On Perfection in early 2025, preceded by a single for “Cold Night.” The album was produced by local icon Jeff Berkley, with guests including Josh Weinstein (piano) and Sandi King (vocals).

Daring Greatly at the Holding Company

Daring Greatly relocated from Calgary in Alberta, Canada to San Diego in August 2015, fronted at the time by Dail Croome and his two sons, Patrick and Liam, who were brought up on stage with their father. The elder Croome is now retired from the group, but the band was nominated Best Rock Artist at the 2022 San Diego Music Awards. They won a 2023 Song of the Year SDMA trophy for the track “Never A Goodbye.” The bill includes Kimmi Bitter and Jesse Ray Smith.

The Black Heart Procession at the Casbah

The Black Heart Procession was co-founded in the late 1990s by Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathanial, and became known for ambitious concept albums exploring existential themes. Although its members have gone on to separate projects, they occasionally reunite for short tours and one-off shows such as this one at their former home-base in Little Italy. The bill includes The Color Forty Nine and Hasco Enjoyments.

San Diego Music Awards at Humphreys By the Bay

The San Diego Music Awards ceremony will be announcing winners in 28 different local music categories, as well as handing over a Lifetime Achievement Award to bassist Nathan East, who has played with everyone from Eric Clapton to Anita Baker and Ringo Starr. Proceeds from this and related events go toward Guitars For Schools, which aims to provide music instruction and access to instruments for students in grades K-12. Performers scheduled to appear include Almost Monday (fresh off a TV performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live), Miniaturized, MohaviSoul, Euphoria Brass Band, Matthew Phillips, and the Tourmaliners.
