Moondaddy at M-Theory Music

October 30

Moondaddy is a dream pop quintet founded in 2020 by singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker. Their debut Poet Lies landed them a tour slot on DeVotchKa’s sold-out West Coast tour, plus they opened for Cryogeyser and Peel Dream Magazine, and played a sold-out 2700-person show opening for Beabadoobie at Soma Mainstage. The band recently dropped a new single, “Great Expansion,” from their forthcoming sophomore full-length Dove Tapes, which will be released on Halloween. The album was recorded in full analog at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas with Manuel Calderon (Animal Collective, Portugal. The Man, Beach House) at the helm. The tracks were then mastered directly from tape to lacquer by Paul Gold (Grizzly Bear) at Salt Mastering, an approach they picked up on their 2024 EP Lightwave Lightwave.

Wild Wild Wets at the Casbah

October 31

Wild Wild Wets was founded in 2011 by former members of the Old In Out, who had recently split. Their fourth full-length Time Mutations dropped in August via Salton Sea Sound System, preceded by a single for “High Rider.” The album was recorded at Earthling Studios in El Cajon, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Mike Kamoo. “We really wanted this album to feel like you’re stepping into another world,” says frontman Mike Turi, who also created the sleeve artwork. “There’s a narrative thread about a character trying to build their own society, and High Rider tells the story of a recluse who thinks they’re above the laws of humanity. It’s like Dr. Moreau meets Ziggy Stardust.” Wild Wild Wets will perform in the Razzmatazz Room, and the all-local bill in the main room includes the Creepy Creeps, Scary Pierre, and Mistress 77.

Fenix TX at the Holding Company

November 2

Pop-punk band Fenix TX was originally based in Texas and known as Riverfenix. Their debut 1997 album Drive Thru resulted in Mark Hoppus managing the band while still playing with blink-182. Both groups toured together until Fenix TX split in 2002, though a few brief reunions ensued. After blink-182 announced its reformation in 2009, the classic Fenix TX lineup reunited as well. One of the original members, Adam Lewis, passed away from cancer in 2024, prompting the band to prepare previously unreleased material to release in memory of Lewis and for the benefit of his family. With two of the members currently living in San Diego county, they recently reissued their 1996 EP G.B.O.H., which originally came out while they were still known as Riverfenix. A new song and video was released earlier this year for the track “Engines.” The afternoon show in Ocean Beach also includes a set from Go Betty Go.

Manny Cepeda Mambo Orchestra at the Quartyard

November 2

Based in Little Italy, the Manny Cepeda Orchestra was formed in April 2004. Its main purpose was to bring Cepeda’s original Salsa and Merengüe selections, as well as current classic Salsa/Merengüe and Cuban music style, to Mexican and American audiences throughout the greater San Diego area. An album dedicated to his father called Padre Querido was nominated for a Latin Grammy award. His most recent full-length dropped in 2021, Yo soy Boricua, though he maintains a regular presence on local concert stages. For this East Village set, Cepeda will perform with an 18-piece band.

King Taylor Project at Humphreys Backstage Music Club

November 5

King Taylor Project features Sandi King and Joshua Taylor, both heavily influenced by soul, jazz, and blues music. “I like to say I'm a native, since my parents brought my brother and I to San Diego from Texas when I was three,” says King, who spent time working as a chef in northern California before settling back in San Diego. Joshua Taylor grew up in Oklahoma City and first picked up the guitar at the age of 13. He won two San Diego Music Awards in 2023, taking home trophies for Best Pop Album for his Unscene full-length and Best Rock or Indie/Alternative Song for the track “Cars Don't Run Forever.” The 2023 King Taylor Project single “Devil in the White City” received twin SDMA nominations, for Best R&B, Funk or Soul Song and Song of the Year. King's debut solo album Departure, a jazz tribute to her late father, was nominated Best Jazz Album at the 2025 SDMAs.
