David Shyde at Cannonball

June 26

“Each project is a harmonious blend of melody and form, weaving together my musical intuition with a keen eye for design,” says singer-guitarist David Shyde, who blends Brazilian bossa nova with rock and blues, all with a nod toward his background career in design. He grew up immersed in the rich musical and colorful traditions of Brazil. In addition to his native music, he was also absorbed in the edgy artistry of Buddy Guy, Mr. BIG, ACDC, Metallica, Joe Satriani and Led Zeppelin. He sings blues and rock, while maintaining a fond appreciation of Brazilian samba and Bossa Nova.

Urethane at the Belly Up Tavern

June 27

Urethane was formed during the 2020 pandemic shutdown by professional skateboarder and guitarist Steve Caballero (the Faction, Odd Man Out, Soda), with War Fever singer-guitarist Tim Fennelly (living in Carlsbad at the time), Skipjack bassist Chad Ruiz (from San Diego East County), and BombPops drummer Dylan Wade (then of Oceanside). Their debut album Chasing Horizons, released in 2021 via Cyber Tracks, was produced, engineered, and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Megadeth, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Pennywise). The album track “Avalanches” features Toby Morse of H2O, and “Inheritance” includes Jim Lindberg of Pennywise. They just returned from a European tour with bands such as Authority Zero and Makewar. The show is headlined by Poway punk rockers Agent 51, with an opening set from Dark Alley Dogs.

The Sess at Soda Bar

June 27

The Sess’ name (pronounced sesh) is shorthand for sessions. Members began by playing in Riverside punk groups. Their 2008 debut CD Agendumb was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2008 San Diego Music Awards. The group split around 2008 with members going on to groups such as Beaters, Ale Mania, and Northern Tigers. They staged a reunion performance on New Year’s Eve 2015/2016 and now make occasional appearances. The bill includes Heavy Hawaii, formed in 2009 by guitarist Matt Bahamas (née Barajas), who formerly played in Fantastic Magic with future Wavves frontman Nathan Williams. Opening the show will be Permissive Rot, an experimental psych-pop band featuring B. Carver of Christmas Island and Teenage Burritos.

Christian Taylor at Mission Bay Resort

June 28

Christian Taylor is the grandson of the Ventures drummer Mel Taylor and Vegas musician Mary Kaye. Taylor blends a love for soul, blues, and Americana into his own raw sound, relying mostly on his raspy, soulful voice. His debut album Daydream was released in 2016, followed by an in-studio EP, The Citizen Sessions, in 2017. Taylor signed with San Diego's Pacific Records in late 2019, just before he performed at that year’s Wonderfront Festival.

Geoff  Nigl at Fairmont Grand Del Mar

June 29

Pianist, keyboardist and composer Geoff Nigl received his Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music where he studied film composing and piano performance. His music has made it onto national commercials and movie trailers, and he’s a founding member of local hip-hop collective Vokab Kompany, who are six-time San Diego Music Award winners. For performances such as this one in Del Mar, he has customized and arranged a setlist built from over a hundred renditions of mainstream Billboard chart songs, frequently blended into mashups.
