Grampadrew at Whistle Stop Bar
June 7
“I've been feeling pretty daunted in the face of the current political nightmare swallowing our nation,” says Grampadrew, aka Drew Douglas, who will revive his Flim-Flam Review in South Park with over a half dozen guest performers. “It will feel good to get back out and do something positive, raising money for folks hungry for a better life, while creating a joyous ruckus.” Proceeds will go towards Border Angels. “They are a direct-action organization who are in the trenches,” says Douglas, “doing water drops in the deserts and mountains, providing legal aid to asylum seekers in detention, and providing shelter along dangerous and arduous journeys toward freedom and opportunities most of us take for granted.” The bill includes Isaac Cheong, Please Ask For Paul, Trailduster, Chad Pittman, Cara Cormier, Christian Gibbs, Tom Peart, Natt Wise, and Erin Bower.

Headphone at Winstons Beach Club
June 7
Founded in 2014, Headphone says "Our music blends our interests in everything from classical and jazz to electronic and independent rock, while the lyrics look at the enigmatic space between connection and detachment, hopefulness, and despair." Their debut album Sector 1was followed by Clouds of Scattered Noise, with both records earning positive reviews and landing them steady local gig work. Opening the OB show will be Dive Bar Saints, a local original rock-pop band featuring lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Frankie Thaheld, guitarist Nick Ascolese, drummer Merrick Marino, bassist Jeff Ludwig, and guitarist and vocalist Anthony “Tony” Cafiso.

Astra Kelly Trio at Carina’s Listening Lounge
June 8
Singer-songwriter Astra Kelly self-released her debut full-length in 1996, recorded in her apartment using professional equipment and engineers who later became friends. Her tenth studio album Soul Fires features what she describes as “folk rock bitten by the south.” It spawned singles such as “Not My Home,” which she calls “a swampy, restless road song written while driving through West Texas, a casting out bad juju anthem, if you will.” This edition of the Clairemont venue’s House Concert Series will be opened by Mariela, followed by the Astra Kelly Trio.
