The monthly Songwriter Sanctuary series features local songwriters sharing stories behind their songs in a Nashville-style in-the-round format. Hosted in an acoustically outstanding hundred year-old sanctuary that was once home to the Acoustic Music San Diego series and curated by Lovebirds singer-songwriter Lindsay White, the performances emphasize inclusivity by offering ASL interpretation, promoting LGBTQ+ and diverse artists, and operating on a donation basis. Performers for this edition include Tim Flannery, a former San Diego Padre and a longtime local musician. By late 2014, the son of a Kentucky preacher had officially retired from his job as third base coach for the San Francisco Giants and announced plans to increase his focus on his growing career as a singer-songwriter. The following year, he released Three Ring Circus, establishing his crowd-friendly acoustic blend of folk and country music. Also appearing is Gayle Skidmore, who was cited Best Singer-Songwriter at the 2013 San Diego Music Awards, which then gave her full-length Sleeping Bear a trophy for Best Pop Album in 2014. The bill additionally features Jackson Wagner, who blends elements of folk, country, rock, and blues with guitar-driven jams and powerful vocals.
