Progressive psychedelic rockers Sacri Monti evoke 1970s jam bands, blending vintage organs and synthesizers with lengthy, distorted guitar improvisations set to a pounding, dance-worthy drumbeat. The band released a four-song EP on cassette with Under the Gun Records before signing with New York-based Tee Pee Records in 2015. Their self-titled debut album was recorded at Audio Design with engineer Jordan Andreen, who returned to work on their 2019 full-length Waiting Room For the Magic Hour. Their third album Retrieval dropped in 2024, and they’re reportedly working on a new full-length planned for early next year. The bill includes Encinitas-based psychedelic jam band Monarch, who will debut their new album MA3.

Songwriter Sanctuary: Chloe Lou Liddell at St. Mary’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church

Hosted by Ramona resident and local artist Cathryn Beeks in collaboration with her music and event production company Listen Local Radio, this month’s Songwriter Sanctuary showcase will feature original music “in-the-round” from three featured performers. Chloe Lou Liddell is a multi-genre songwriter and vocalist whose original band, Chloe Lou & The Liddells has been creating music reminiscent of 1960s rock ‘n soul since 2018, winning a 2020 San Diego Music Award for Best Pop Album for the debut EP Storybook. Also appearing will be a duo named Haywire and baritone vocalist Nate Donnis. Prior to the show, host Cathryn Beeks will also be sharing original music, accompanied by Laura Burdette, as part of a Pre-Show Pantry Jam. Guests are invited to enjoy music upon arrival and encouraged to contribute unopened and unexpired shelf-stable food or gently used clothing to a community pantry for under-resourced Ramona neighbors.

Thee Sacred Souls at Petco Park

Alex Garcia and Sal Samano (formerly of Fake Tides) began cutting bedroom demos of rhythm tracks together in 2019. Both multi-instrumentals, Alex migrated from the guitar to the drums, while Sal learned bass. The duo used Instagram to recruit City Heights singer Josh Lane, a former Sacramento music student who relocated to San Diego in 2017, to form retro soul trio Thee Sacred Souls (their name a partial nod to Chicano rock heroes Thee Midniters). After their first club date, they were signed by Daptone Records producer and co-founder Bosco Mann (Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings), and were soon working at Mann’s Riverside studio recording tracks like “Call I Call You Rose?” which went on to top a million online plays. The group blends 1960s and 1970s R&B with elements of Chicano soul, doo-wop, and Latin R&B, creating a warm, analog sound featuring smooth vocals and deep grooves. They’ve performed on TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as playing NPR’s famed Tiny Desk Concert series. The lineup at Petco’s Gallagher Square includes La Lom and the Womack Sisters.

Founded in 2016, alt-pop punk band Nights Like Thieves is making music that combines upbeat and slower rhythms with emotional melodies. Founder Mario J. Rivera, who moved to San Diego after fronting Albuquerque’s Left Unsaid, formerly headed up a comedic hip-hop band named Monster Paws that was heard on TV’s Jersey Shore, The Real World, and in a Ford commercial. Citing influences such as Deftones, At the Drive In, and Sunny Day Real Estate, the debut Nights Like Thieves EP Light the Fuse and Run came out in 2017 via La Escalera Records. They’ve been dropping new releases this year such as a digital single for their track “Shadows in the Rain” and a comedic action-packed music video for “Shut Me Up" featuring filmmaker and ad creator Jake Davis. The City Heights bill also features SoCal post-hardcore band A Face With No Name and local pop-punk group A Quiet Collapse.

Americana singer-songwriter Sara Petite was born and raised in the country near Sumner, Washington, later relocating to San Diego. Her rural youth informed her subsequent songwriting, utilizing accordion, pedal steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin. In 2022, she won two San Diego Music Awards, for Best Country or Americana Album and Best Country or Americana Artist. Petite will debut her eighth album HerStory: Snakes, Wolves and Honky Tonk Angels, performing it live in its entirety. The show will open with a set from Sara Petite’s Americana Roundup, Honky Tonk Angels, a country revue celebrating the music and spirit of country music’s most iconic women. The showcase will feature Petite alongside Ashley E. Norton (who began her career in the Arizona music scene with folk-rock band Delcoa), Chloe Lou Liddell, Lauren Leigh, and Liz West, all delivering original songs, classic country favorites, and honky-tonk anthems in what Petite describes as a “powerhouse celebration of women in country music.”
