There’s a Monday jam session going down at Busalacchi’s (3707 Fifth Avenue) with Louis Valenzuela on guitar, Mackenzie Leighton on bass, and Kevin Higuchi on drums from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No cover charge.

Tuesday 14
Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda leads a trio with Schlomi Cohen and Rodrigo Villalon at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street). The concert is sold out, but there may be a few tickets available at the door. Music begins at 7:30 p.m. $26 general admission, $21 members… Vocalists Leonard Patton and Gillian Margot present a Valentine tribute to “Pops & Ella” with Curtis Taylor, Ed Kornhauser, Justin Grinnell, and Duncan Moore at Dizzy’s (1717 Morena Boulevard) 8 p.m. $20 cash at the door… Vocalist Lorraine Castellanos duets with guitarist Bob Boss at Marina Kitchen (333 West Harbor Drive) from 6 to 9:30 p.m. No cover charge.

At 8:30, he leads the jazz jam session until 11:30 p.m.

Nathan Hubbard plays electronics/homemade instruments at the San Diego Art Institute Project Space at Horton Plaza (Space 141 next to Victoria’s Secret) from 7 to 9 p.m. Free admission… The Mark Lessman Quartet with John Opferkuch on piano, Dave Marr on bass and Bob Weller on drums play Harbor Music Hall (1502 India Street) from 7 to 10 p.m. for a $10 cover… The Lorraine Castellanos Quintet with Bob Boss, Robert Dove, Dean Hulett and Brett Sanders play Panama 66 from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover charge.

Drummer Richard Sellers leads a group with Kamau Kenyatta, Mackenzie Leighton and Curtis Taylor for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… Gilbert Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate with Lorraine Castellanos, Bob Boss, and Dean Hulett at the Westgate Plaza Bar (1055 Second Avenue) from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum.

Besos de Coco with Lorraine Castellanos, Evona Wascinski, and Claudia Gomez play Panama 66 from 5 to 7 p.m. No cover, no minimum… The 9th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa with Allison Adams Tucker, Teka Penteriche, Lori Bell, Danny Green, Mark Lamson, Bruno Moreira, Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm goes down at Dizzy’s at 7 p.m. $25 cash at the door… Gilbert Castellanos collaborates with the San Diego Ballet to present his composition “Audaz,” with Irving Flores, Rob Thorsen, Tommy Aros, and Fernando Gomez at the Lyceum Theatre (324 Horton Plaza) at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $50.
