Start the jazz week off with a free lunchtime concert showcasing the U.S. Marine Corps Jazz Orchestra with special guest Gilbert Castellanos at SDSU’s Smith Recital Hall (5500 Campanile Drive) from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday 28
The Mardis Gras Trio with Gary Rich on trumpet, Ed Kornhauser on piano, Mackenzie Leighton on bass, and Matt Smith on drums play Harbor Music Hall (1506 India Street) from 7 to 10 p.m. $20 bucks gets you in, $30 gets you dinner… The Nathan Hubbard Trio with Kevin Jones on guitar and Harley Magsino on bass set up at Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. 21+, No cover.

Wednesday 1
The Society Beat 16-piece 1st Wednesday Big Band play Mr. Peabody’s Bar & Grill (136 Encinitas Boulevard) from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover… The Nathan Hubbard Skeleton Key Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Harley Magsino play the Mesa College Recital Hour (7250 Mesa College Drive) from 4 to 5 p.m. Free… Peter Sprague and Leonard Patton play in duo at the Roxy Restaurant (517 South Coast Highway 101) at 6:30 p.m. No cover… Gilbert Castellanos has two back-to-back gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series featuring drummer Johncarlo Grady, then continuing at 8:30 p.m. when he leads the Latin Jam Session inside at the Copley Auditorium. All ages, no cover, musicians bring your instruments to the jam session.

Thursday 2
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street) concludes its winter series with a special solo appearance by guitarist Ralph Towner at 7:30 p.m. The concert is sold out, but there may be a few tickets available at the door. $26 general admission, $21 members… The First Thursday Jazz Jam goes down with Gary Rich, Jason Shattil, Dean Hulett and Fernando Gomez at Bourre (6523 University Avenue) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. No cover… The Matt Smith Jazz Trio with Hugo Suarez and Harley Magsino play Harbor Music Hall from 7 to 11 p.m. for a $10 cover.

Friday 3
The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio with Ed Kornhauser on piano and Mackenzie Leighton on bass celebrate the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… The Danny Green Trio with Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm set up at Panama 66 from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover.

Saturday 4
