Gayle Skidmore has a new single and video for her folk-pop track “The Road to Nowhere,” inspired by her journey to Lapland, Finland, where she connected with her family’s indigenous Sámi roots in the remote town of Salla. "I spent four days driving from Amsterdam to the top of the world, Lapland, dodging reindeer and sleeping under the stars, and found a piece of myself maybe I always knew was missing,” she says. “This song captures the peculiar magic of the open road: troubles flying out the window, new landscapes and perspectives, and the realization that 'nowhere' is the only place I want to be.” Skidmore was named a Top 5 finalist in the Great American Song Contest’s Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting category for “The Road to Nowhere.” You can see her performing at this month's edition of the Songwriter's Sanctuary series at Normal Heights United Methodist Church on Friday, May 29.

Metal band Nukem signed with the label Redefining Darkness, who released a new single in early 2026, "Random Acts of Violence," which features a guest guitar solo from Russ Tippins of the band Satan. The track was a preview of the band's sophomore full-length The Grave Remains, which came with a video for the album track "Tactics of Terror," that bassist Don Lauder says is about "The People vs The Government. Both sides fully believing that they’re the 'good guys,' both sides fully invested in the power struggle of the world." The single for "Into the Kill Zone" features Rob Cavestany of Death Angel, and there's a single and video streaming for "Policies of Hate." The album also includes guest appearances from Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer), Lee Altus (Exodus, Heathen), and Laura Christine (Dark Angel, Warface).

Rapper Michael May -- aka Meidai -- is a hip-hop MC who launched his label Off Da Wall MusiQ in January 2006. He has multiple projects planned for the rest of 2026, including an album called Therapy Aint Work For Me, along with an autobiography, I Cant Make This Shit Up, and a documentary titled Clown.

Guitarist/keyboardist/electronic-manipulator Marcelo Radulovich is an experimental musician in the vein of John Cage and the Kronos Quartet. He and former Frank Zappa guitarist Mike Keneally have a new collaborative album called Saturday, marking the latest “day-of-the-week” instrumental project that they've recorded together. "What a weird and wonderful trip it has been, born out of a half baked idea," says Radulovich. "The final installment in the weekday series, Sunday, will be released sometime in the next couple of months," he says of the upcoming record, which features Keneally playing a dual-neck ukulele bass. According to Radulovich, "The ukulele bass has become our go to bass, strangely enough, it has a really interesting tone and is fun to play. Several of the tunes in Bask 3 [another Radulovich/Keneally collab] feature it, and it sounds great."

Chris Leyva (Blizzard), who grew up in Mexico City, also manages the Black Cherry Group that he co-founded in 2006. The new album from his rock band Falling Doves album 37 Aigburth Drive was recorded at Motor Studios and Abbey Road Studios, although its content was created during the pandemic. The album is named after a location in Liverpool where the band found refuge and wrote the songs during lockdown. The band will play a gig later in May in Yise, Hiroshima, Japan with Koji Seizi.

Blues guitarist Laura Chavez has played with Candye Kane, Casey Hensley, and many others. She took home the award for Best Instrumental Guitarist at the 2023 Blues Music Awards in Memphis, the first female guitarist so honored. Her new album My Voice is a full-length instrumental blues album released by Ruf Records that features ten original and cover tracks focused on using her guitar work as her "voice." She's appearing at the Belly Up Tavern on Tuesday, May 12.

"It’s about trying to move on, and realizing some people don’t really leave," says Daring Greatly of their new single “Never Gone.” "We wrote this one last summer on the road during a rare pause. [We] ended up in a somewhat sleazy Motel 6 while it rained all day, and somehow that turned into an all-day writing session. Seminal 90s hardcore band End of the Line and Santa Barbara’s Downcast, who last played together in 1992, are hooking up for a pair of June dates in San Diego and Los Angeles, at the Che Café on June 13 and Los Angeles’s Oblivion on June 14. End of the Line, who were only extant around eight months together, will be playing their first shows in 34 years. San Diego band Three Moments of an Explosion will be opening both events.

The group has earned over 1.1B online streams, enjoyed a late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, collaborated with Jordana on “jupiter,” and they've worked with producers behind OneRepublic and The Killers. The group recently toured New Zealand and Australia supporting The Band Camino, plus they played a slate of headline dates in China. They have a new single and video for “leaving is easy” co-written with Chase Lawrence of COIN (who also produced the track) and Austin Salters, and they will join Young the Giant and Cold War Kids for a U.S. tour beginning May 24 in Las Vegas and wrapping on June 27 in Nashville.

Jacks Maniaks is a genre-fluid, independent artist whose music blends indie, rock, punk, and pop influences with electronic textures and Latin indie influences. Self-produced projects explore themes of identity and transformation. A new single and video for the track "Runaway" precedes a full-length album called The Jacks Attack due for release June 12. The music video for “Runaway” was recorded live during a San Diego performance, with visuals that were created using a blend of photography and AI-enhanced motion, adding a surreal, dancing quality to the imagery.

Perry and Kill Rock Stars have announced a new partnership and the launch of the imprint 670 Records, to release Perry’s first solo album in over 25 years, Let It Die Here, due May 8 and reportedly featuring a track titled "Balboa Park." It's first single dropped for “Beautiful,” which she performed February 24 on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The video for "Beautiful" was directed by actor/producer/director Sara Gilbert. In addition, a feature-length documentary, Linda Perry: Let It Die Here, directed by award-winning filmmaker Don Hardy (Citizen Penn, Pick of the Litter), hits theaters this month. Filmed over several years, the documentary captures Perry as she confronts personal change and a crossroads in her career, including a 4 Non Blondes reunion and new album.

She recently collaborated with producer and songwriter Allan Phillips to create “Afrika,” which comes from Antoinette’s fourth album, Fierce, due to be released soon.
