The April 19 anti-Trump protest held downtown had a much smaller turnout then the event on April 5. The crowd tended to be senior citizen and middle aged when I first arrived. Many more people in their twenties and younger showed up as the crowd increased in size.

Mahmoud Khalil and others have been arrested for criticizing Israel war actions in Gaza. Protestors have advocated that these people should not be deported back to the countries they originated from.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is the most well known of the people deported to El Salvador's CECOT prison. Garcia being sent to the prison was originally described as an error by the Trump administration. Since the public outcry over what happened, Trump has given justifications of why he belongs in the prison.

One speaker said they should be a inclusive movement. She said former Trump supporters are welcome at the protests. The speech also advocated a boycott of Amazon.

This speaker criticized Israel and talked about human rights abuses being done against the Palestinians. The crowd applauded in response to what she said. I could hear no boos from the attendees.



Families made their presence known at the event. As I was scanning the marching crowd, a woman's sign said "Reagan Would Be Ashamed." A sign referring to a former Republican president demonstrates the wide cross-section of political opinions represented.

There were people wearing Padres clothing at this event and the February President’s Day protest. I saw people applauding from the streets. There was a group of restaurant workers on the sidewalk smiling and clapping as we walked by their restaurant.

I talked to one of the protestors who was supporting Canada in its dispute with the Trump administration. I lived in Canada for years and visited through my teen years. Trump referring to Canada as the 51st state has motivated many Canadians to boycott anything having to do with the United States.

I have been going to protests since I was a teenager. It's not uncommon to see Communists manning promotional tables at demonstrations.
