11:45 Boating: Lifeguard vessels respond to a kayaker in distress off Hill Street. Kayak blows into No Surf Beach, and lifeguards assess for injuries. None found.

11:54 Swimmer: Lifeguards respond to snorkelers who could “be out of ability” in given conditions. Lifeguards investigate and issue warnings.

July 21

03:50 Boating: 18’ vessel taking on water at the Dana Dock. Lifeguard responds. Advises vessel is completely submerged. Owner on scene contacts sea tow for haul out.

10:08 Medical: 40-year-old male, sick kayaker at the Mission Bay Channel. Lifeguard vessel responds transports patient to reception dock. Patient advised and released.

11:19 Medical: 66-year-old female fall/head injury at Mariners Way south of W. Mission Bay Bridge. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond. Fire and Medical on scene; all lifeguards clear.

12:25 Boating: 24’ vessel “Mayday” dead in the water off the kelp beds at Sunset Cliffs. Lifeguard vessels respond. Vessel deploys anchor and holding; waiting for Sea Tow.

12:35 Medical: 23-year-old female fainting at Driscoll’s. Lifeguard, fire and medical units respond. Patient transported to Scripps La Jolla.

13:48 Medical: Stingray patient at Boundary Line. Lifeguard responds provides treatment.

14:30 Medical: 20 year-old male head injury from a surfing accident at Scripps Beach. Lifeguards respond. Patient advised and released.

16:54 Medical: 24 year-old male, vehicle vs. motorcycle. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond. Fire on scene handling.

17:01 Other: Missing Juvenile at Mission Beach. Lifeguard responds. Caller finds child, lifeguards clear.

18:08 Swimmer: Casa guard reports 10 victims in the water at Red-Tile roof/Hospitals. Multiple lifeguards/vessels respond. All swimmers accounted for, lifeguard vessel cancelled.

20:21 Boating: 911 call of 2 kayakers having difficulty exiting at the sanctuary. Lifeguards/jet unit respond. Lifeguards on scene walk victims out. No injuries; clear.

July 20

09:03 Medical: Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond to Fiesta Island for a 35-year-old unconscious and not breathing. Fire and lifeguard on scene searching and call clear.

09:31 Medical: Lifeguards respond to a 50 year-old male with shortness of breath at Ventura Cove. Clear with fire on scene.

14:14 Medical: Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond to Ocean Beach for a 13 year-old having an allergic reaction to a bee sting. Patient advised and released.

14:36 Cliff: Lifeguards/cliff unit respond for two individuals stuck on the cliff at Boundary Line, Blacks Beach. No injuries, victims rescued by 15:56.

14:52 Medical: Marine St. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond to a 14-year-old male, head vs. ocean floor. Patient transported to Scripps La Jolla.

15:15 Boating: Lifeguard vessel responds to an unclaimed vessel at Mission Bay Yacht Club. Vessel towed back to headquarters for impound.

15:24 Medical: Lifeguard and medical units respond to a 74 year-old female with difficulty breathing at Pacific Beach. Patient advised and released.

17:10 Enforcement: Lifeguards respond to a noncompliant spear fisherman at Wipeout Beach. Citation issued and lifeguards clear.

July 19

07:02 Boating: Call via VHF channel 16; 35’ vessel taking on water approximately 5 miles off Mission Bay Channel. Lifeguard vessel responds. Lifeguard reports bilge pumps keeping up with leak, remains on scene until Tow Boat US takes over tow back to San Diego Bay.

07:27 Swimmer: San Diego PD transfer of a 20-30 year-old male who jumped off the S. Ingraham Bridge. San Diego PD and lifeguard vessel respond. Lifeguard unable to locate, calls clear.

12:14 Medical: 91-year-old male trip/fall on boardwalk at Avalon Ct. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond. Patient transported to Scripps La Jolla.

14:16 Boating: 19’ vessel near the surf at Pt. Loma; boat on the rocks at Ralphs. Lifeguard vessel responds. Commercial tow to San Diego Bay.

14:28 Medical: 18-year-old female neck pain from a prior injury at the Ocean Beach main tower.

Medical unit responds. Patient advised and released.

17:41 Medical: 49-year-old male with abdominal pain at Tower 19. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond. Medics transport to Scripps La Jolla.

July 18

10:59 Medical: Report received of a 74year-old male, chest pain at 1137 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond, fire handles.

10:52 Medical: Report received of a 50-year-old male with breathing problems at 3720 Rivera Dr. Lifeguard, fire, and medical units respond, fire handles.

11:30 Medical: Call box call at Tourmaline for a 19-year-old male with a leg injury. Lifeguards respond, patient has a stingray wound and is transported to Pacific Beach main tower for treatment.

11:46 Swimmer: Reporting person states his kids are out too far off Bahia Pt. Lifeguard vessel responds and the kids are able to swim to the beach with no assistance.

12:02 Boating: Caller states there are two 13-year-old females on a PWC dead in the water in Fiesta Bay. Lifeguard vessel responds and females released to father.

13:15 Enforcement: Report of indecent exposure at Indian Canyon. Lifeguard responds along with State guards, suspect is interviewed and released with a warning.

19:01 Medical: Call box call at Tourmaline call box for a 7-year-old male stingray victim. Lifeguard responds and transports to Pacific Beach main tower for treatment.

20:00 Cliff: Report from Metro of two possible victims stuck on the cliff in the Windows area of Blacks Beach. Northern area cliff response dispatched, Technical rope rescue to raise both victims to the top, no injuries.

July 17

14:54 Medical: 48 y/o Male Foot pain from a stingray at Blacks Beach. Lifeguard responds; turnover to Medics. Patient transported to UCSD.

16:49 Boating: Skiff adrift/aground at 33’s in Point Loma. Lifeguard jet and vessel units respond. Joint Harbor Operations Center notified. RW transports 7’ skiff back to the Boat Storage Unit. JHOC sent photos per request.

July 16

10:15 Medical: MDC report on an unconscious 67-year-old female at 700 Hornblend. Pacific Beach lifeguards respond and fire takes over the call.

11:36 Medical: Medics requested to Pacific Beach Drive for a 18-year-old male with a dislocated shoulder from a surfing accident. Medical transports to Scripps La Jolla.

11:23 Boating: VHF call reporting an overturned Laser in Sail Bay. Lifeguard vessel responds, vessel taken out by tide and returned to beach bar at Kingston.

14:33 Medical: Lifeguards request fire and medics for a 41-year-old female with heat related illness. Patient advised and released.

16:01 Medical: 17-year-old female head Vs bottom at 700 Oliver. M-20 transports to Scripps La Jolla.

17:45 Medical: Call for a 14-year-old male bleeding from the foot at Tourmaline. Lifeguard locates patient with stingray wound and transports to Pacific Beach main tower for treatment.

Wow. You can't say that San Diego Lifeguards don't earn their keep during this hot, high-surf, lotsa-rips summer of 2018. Thanks, folks!

Yeah. I remember the good old days when Johnnyvegas used to complain that lifeguards were overpaid and we didn't need very many of them.
