Tip of Tijuana's garbage iceberg
Every year about Spring time, the local TV news stations do puff pieces on TJ and Baja. They'll use teasers like, "Tijuana: It's not what you think," and "Great eats just south of the border" to lure folks to spend money. They'll even send their most "gringo," non-Spanish speaking reporter to do the job of reporting, with the hopes of calming the nerves of potential tourists. Everybody knows TJ has amazing cuisine, but there's also a lot of corruption and violence. So for our local news stations to become the local arm of Baja's visitor's bureau every Spring break is disappointing.— February 18, 2017 7:11 p.m.
North County brewer shuts down
No wonder, look at their logo! Are those train tracks or football laces? They should've worked on their branding a bit more. Their logo looks like sign declaring dangerous and flammable goods. Good idea, poor execution.— February 12, 2017 11:11 p.m.
City to block mayor's testimony in accident case?
I can already see the commercials that'll air when the mayor runs for governor. This will definitely come back to haunt him.— January 14, 2017 6:40 p.m.
Gas-price hike protests in Tijuana
The quicker we build the wall, the better. Soon, they'll be rushing the border when their country collapses.— January 8, 2017 9:31 p.m.
KFMB/Channel 8 pulls signal from Cox Cable
So you're suggesting that the only qualified, talented, and experienced people are white? This isn't the 1960's Ponzi!— December 19, 2016 6:42 p.m.
KFMB/Channel 8 pulls signal from Cox Cable
Thank you, Cox, for sparing us from a six o'clock news team that reflects none of the diversity of San Diego.— December 18, 2016 7:03 p.m.
"Hate Has No Business Here" in Mission Hills
There's no courage in preaching to the choir. This gentleman is obviously a businessman who saw the election result as an opportunity to get some free press and pats on the back...like Trump.— December 18, 2016 6:50 p.m.
Citizens victors over NFL greed
This reminds me of the Downtown Library. Folks were committed to the idea of a new building regardless of the fact that library attendance was on a steady decline and the digital revolution was well underway. Similarly, the Chargers want a new stadium even though attendance and NFL viewership is down, and people are finding better use for their time via other digital avenues.— November 13, 2016 9:01 a.m.
Chula Vista sued over Third and K residential tower
I've lived a block away from Third Avenue for nearly 12 years, and I'm tired of the lack of vision that exists in this city. On the one hand you have folks like Earl Jentz who want to run the city via puppet strings. On the other hand you have a weak mayor, city council, and chamber of commerce that have allowed Third Avenue to become the quinciñera hall mecca of South County. What we have here is an identity crisis. How is it that a small city like La Mesa can create a great downtown space while Chula Vista, the second largest city in the county, can't even decide what it wants to do with itself?— September 27, 2016 8:06 a.m.
Ocean Beach lemonade stand tops $100 in profits
Awesome! Entrepreneurialism, and capitalism with a heart. Although his parents aren't together (I'm assuming since they mention them separately) he's still wants to help others and be a light of generosity in this world.— August 15, 2016 7:13 a.m.
