Wavves at Observatory North Park

July 24

Wavves started out as a one-man band brainstormed by Nathan Williams, a former Music Trader manager whose debut lo-fi album as Wavves was recorded on a laptop computer in his parents’ garage — on the trial version of Garage Band, with a Macbook routed through an internal mic. A new album called Spun dropped in June via Ghost Ramp Records, preceded by a single for “Goner” produced by Travis Barker, with an accompanying video filmed at the Los Angeles County wildfire benefit show at Zebulon. Promoting their first new music since 2021, this penultimate date of Wavves’ Spun North America Summer 2025 tour includes San Francisco grunge-shoegaze band Chokecherry, as well as NIIS and Initiate.

Ed Kornhauser Trio at Coronado Library

July 25

Jazz pianist Ed Kornhauser grew up in Escondido, attending SDSU and receiving a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies in 2009. He’s played with local groups such as Soft Limits and retro funk quartet Juicebox, as well as collaborating with local jazz talents including vocalists Amelia Browning, Jonathan Karrant, and Whitney Shay. A four-time San Diego Music Award honoree - including Best Jazz Album in 2021 for The Short Years, and Best Jazz in 2022, 2023, and 2025 - his Ed Kornhauser Trio will take the stage in Winn Room to perform a blend of lyrical grace and modern swing.

Avenue Army at House of Blues

July 25

Avenue Army relocated from Saint Paul, Minnesota to San Diego specifically because they felt that their sound would fit nicely in Southern California and because they strongly felt that this was the place to build a better foundation for their music and fanbase,” says singer-songwriter Max Bergstrom of alt-pop-punk band Avenue Army. They relocated to California in 2016, where Bergstrom eventually recruited an entirely revised local lineup. They recently released a new single and music video for their track “Shit Out of Luck." The show is headlined by American Pie actor and musician Thomas Nicholas, on a bill that includes Ikana and Dream Desire.

Their newest singles for “Fading” and “Letters” come from their 12-inch Losing Pace EP, mostly recorded with Mike Kamoo at Earthling Studios and released via Quiet Panic. Los Angeles shoegaze-alt-rockers Closed Tear headlines, with Santee’s Trit 95 also slated to appear.

Brian Pierini at La Valencia Hotel
