Cliff rescue from earlier this year

August 12

— Swimmer screaming for help at Emerald Cove buoy. 3King responds with 24 Sam backup by boat. 3King rescues female and brings her in to the beach. No further assistance needed.

— Person stuck on cliff near Box Canyon. Fire and LG’s respond. Fire handles the cliff extrication and 3L and 3Sam assist.

— Call box call with no answer on other end. 1Sam and U100 respond. 1Sam UTL.

— Chest pain at Mariners Basin on a 58y/o male on the vessel Rip Tide. Rescue 2, E-20, M-10 responds. Medic 10 transports patient to Scripps LJ.

— 10-7 vessel at Ski Beach. Guardian I responds and provides an emergency tow.

— Allergic reaction at Santa Clara place on a 12y/o female. JG’s, Fire and Medics respond. Patient AMA’s with Medic 2.

— Conducting business on Mission Bay at South Pac passage. R2, 41Sam, 6Sam and SDPD. Citations issued all units cleared.

— Allergic reaction at 700 Grand Ave. LG, Fire and Medics respond. Patient AMA with Medic 21.

— Impound vessel over 15 minutes at public dock at Ski Beach. Rescue 2 handles impound of the vessel.

— Vessel out of gas at Fiesta Bay. Vessel is a 18ft Maxim. Rescue 7 responds and tows vessel to De Anza dock.

— Chest pain at LG HQ on a 28y/o male. LG’s, Fire and Medics respond. Fire handles and takes over the call. Medic 21 transports patient to UCSD.

— Vessel taking on water 1 mile off the roller coaster at Mission Beach. Vessel is a 24ft Bayliner, 3 POB with approx.3 inches of water in the engine compartment. MI, and Rescue 5 with 24 Sam respond. Tow Boat US takes over the call once they were on scene.

August 11

— Complications post water rescue at 3141 Ocean Front Walk. LG 23X, E21 and Medic 20 respond. Medic 20 transport to Scripps La Jolla.

— 3 people having trouble getting back into kayak in Sail Bay. Guardian II responds. Kayakers cleared on their own.

— Report of injured person who fell off cliff at Santa Cruz St via 911 call. 24S, E15, E22, T20, M20 and SDPD respond. Non-technical extrication performed. Patient transported to unknown destination.

August 10

— HP responded to a vessel collision just outside the San Diego bay. The collision happened between a commercial diving vessel that was stationary with divers in the water and a passing sailboat. The accident is still under investigation.

— Stingray victim at Surf School at PB Drive. 10 y/o male. U24 responds. PT transported to PB tower for treatment.

— Cove Lifeguards report divers waving for help at LJ Cove. Cove LG respond via board. Jet 3 reports panic attack, victim requesting Medics. 2x11-59. U300, 3 Sam, Rescue West, Jet 3, E9, M35 respond. Medic 35 transport PT to UCSD.

— 911 call. RP advises person on Indian Canyon trail at Blacks. Dehydration/Nausea/Dizziness, 18 y/o male. Patient assisted up the trail. U35, 31Sam, M41, E35 respond. Medic 41 transport PT to Scripps.

— 911 call. Person stuck on Cliff, 25 y/o male, non-injured. Victim initially thought to be at Ho Chi Minh, but located by 3King at Boundary Line. Copter 2 unable to hoist, IC to use ground based system. 3King, USAR 41, T35, U85, B5, Copter 2, E35, M35, 3L respond. Lifeguards clear. Fire sets up system and performs rescue. (pick-off and lower to beach)

— 911 call. RP states had argument with dAugusthter; she then ran out into water and will not come back to shore. Every time approached she goes farther out into water. RP also advises poor swimming ability. SDPD, 24Sam, Rescue 2 respond. DAugusthter exits water on own accord, all units clear.

August 9

— HP was dispatched to Pier 32 in National City to investigate a fuel spill within the marina. It was found that a small U.S. Coast Guard vessel had a mechanical problem which caused about one gallon of gasoline to spill into the bay. The Coast Guard vessel was immediately shut down and taken out of the water and crews were sent out to clean up the spill.

— Stingray attack at north Tourmaline. Unit 25 and 21S respond. Patient treated at SPB and released.

— Bike accident at Pismo Court and Bayside Ln. 42S, E21, and M21 respond. Medic 21 transports to Grossmont.

— Man down at 5000 Newport and OB Pier. Unit 100 and M22 respond. Medics transport to UCSD.

— CPR Patient pulled from water at 2727 De Anza Rd. Bay East, 4L, 4S, 42S, Guardian, R3, E21 and M21 respond. Rescue 3 advises that this was not water related. Medics call patient 11-44.

— Broken arm from PWC accident on North side of Fiesta Island. SDHP, R3 and GI respond. Minor medical aid and patient released.

— SDPD reports unattended children in ocean at 2600 Ocean Front Walk. SMB reports area is clear.

— Multiple rescues at South Mission Beach. Rescue 5 responds. All Lifeguards clear and surf boat covers.

— Traumatic injuries at Ski Beach reported on MDC. GII, 41S and Medic 27 respond. Jet ski was not moving. No accident and M27 handles.

— Vessel with dead battery on West side of Fiesta Island and Stony Point. Rescue 5 responds. Vessel towed to Dana— clear.

San Diego Lifeguards are a 24 hour rescue agency whose responsibilities include water rescue, boat rescue, marine fire suppression, coastal cliff rescue, underwater search and recovery, swift water and flood search, rescue and emergency medical response. San Diego Lifeguards also handle enforcement of city, state and federal laws and regulations. Lifeguards are classified as peace officers with the power of arrest.
