Reputed meth addicts wreak havoc in Ocean Beach
Nothing good can come from associating with drug addicts.— November 11, 2013 6:16 p.m.
Cathedral Glen, Angeles Glen, Pointer Glen in Escondido – all hit in burglaries
We do not imprison thieves for long enough. Four years is good for a first offense. A second should be 20, and a third should be LWOP. Get a safe. You can get a decent-sized safe for a couple hundred bucks, or a big one for less than a grand. Neither of these will stop the determined burglar, but they will stop the "grazers" who want to fill their pockets and quickly run away. Always lock your doors... ALWAYS! Plant spiky plants under windows. Get an alarm. If you have a gun, get a lockbox... you can get ones that attach to the bed frame and can be unlocked with your fingers quickly. If you leave it in a nightstand, it'll wind up in the hands of a burglar faster than you'll use it to defend yourself. Get timers for a couple of lights, a TV, a radio. Make it look like someone's home.— September 26, 2013 1:47 p.m.
Are you a franchise player?
Can't forget that, in a franchise, the franchising organization controls EVERYTHING. Signage, displays, marketing, etc. They make the call, you write the check. Not only do you split the profits, but you buy everything from them. They make money coming and going. I can't imagine ever getting involved in a racket like that. More power to those who can.— September 26, 2013 1:39 p.m.
Former Fallbrook Klansman involved in town takeover attempt
The US has no shortage of communities that are other-than-white-only. Either in fact, as in the black Muslim communities in New York that specifically exclude whites; or in practice, as in every major city has at least one neighborhood where a white person would have to be suicidal to just try to walk through at night, let alone try to move in. So if white bigots want to get together and have a whites-only town, I say more power to 'em. It should be our right to choose whom to associate with, even for the worst of reasons.— September 26, 2013 1:36 p.m.
Gang collecting bogus tax refunds broken up
Why does the US Government make it so easy to collect "free money"? A "refund" should be for one reason, and one reason only... someone (who can be identified and verified) paid too much in. But we just have to have a system where millions of takers can pay in a few hundred and then be entitled to thousands in various credits. We need tax reform: 1) Everyone pays something; and 2) Nobody can ever possibly get a 'refund' or more than they paid in.— September 26, 2013 1:13 p.m.
The NFL’s paltry concussion settlement
Let me see... guys willingly join the NFL to play a tough, physical game, for which they're paid far more than most people will ever make in their lives. Football players of today are, very literally, the 1% Everyone knows that playing football is a great way to get injured, there there are tremendous risks, but the payout is there, and they sign on the dotted line. But now, suddenly, they're "victims" and deserve even more money??? Seems like, for safety's sake, we ought to ban football, not increase the payouts. What about high school and college ball players? Shouldn't they get millions, too? They play the same game, take the same risks. Enough of the hand-wringing and crocodile tears. This is a money grab... dumb jocks struck it rich, partied, blew all of their money, and now want a free second bite at the apple so they don't have to feel any pain. But what else can we expect in Obama's Giveaway America? People who partied using their houses as ATMs get bailed out. Those who can't hold a job get endless unemployment extensions, then disability checks, and then an array of more free goodies. Nobody is responsible for themselves any more. Why work, save, be responsible? Blow it all, we'll just soak the deep pockets to make you feel better. I want to puke.— September 7, 2013 6:49 p.m.
Hooters workers’ case rages in San Diego court; media mum
If they're "underpaid" or "poorly treated" or the dress code is too onerous... I have a really crazy idea! We'll pass a law to allow them to quit! We can send in the police with lock cutters to break their shackles and release them! Maybe if we all work really hard, we can give this option to the prisoners trapped in bad jobs!— August 16, 2013 1:12 p.m.
Vista teen ordered to pay $105,703 for her admitted acts of vandalism
What difference does it make how long it will take her to pay? She owes the money. Let her pay $200 a month, and she can be done in 44 years. And if she can never pay it off, and winds up dying broke, oh well... maybe she'll serve as an object lesson for the next idiot who wants to commit acts of vandalism.— August 16, 2013 1:09 p.m.
San Diegans could be last to know who's paying for Filner recall
What difference does it make who's paying for the recall effort? Let's pretend it's the most despicable group imaginable. So they fund a recall effort. The people will vote to keep Filner or throw him out. How is who was financing the campaign going to affect the outcome? If Republicans bring the money to the table, that somehow means the outcome is tainted? For all you goofy Filner supporters, you should be happy to have the evil people finance the recall. After all, you're right... we should ignore his behavior. So they'll just be wasting their money. Y'all sound like the Low Speed Rail to Nowhere idiots... "This is a really fantastic idea, but we cannot possibly revisit it! Nothing can be allowed to change! We must move FORWARD at full speed, even if 'forward' is towards a cliff, because avoiding the cliff would be 'backwards'!"— August 16, 2013 1:07 p.m.
Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Anyone who's elected cannot be removed from office for any reason? Why can't we have another election to see if San Diegans want to keep Filner? An election does not impart immunity against prosecution, so if he's determined to be a criminal, he absolutely can be tossed out. To suggest otherwise is far beyond bizarre and well into the realm of needing professional help and medication.— August 16, 2013 12:59 p.m.
