City Pension Fund Is Only 58 Percent Funded, Council Will Learn Tomorrow. Will It and Mayor Listen?
Don, Have you looked into how the city got its rating back? Do you think it was a credit default swap? I dont see any other way that the mayor restored our credit rating over night except by buying a credit default swap--I saw they could be used for municipal bonds. It essentailly means they would have bought a credit rating from a company like AIG when in reality our credit is still no good. ust curious.— November 12, 2008 12:22 a.m.
Proposition 8: Indecent Proposal
My point on the money is that it would have never got on the ballot had Manchester not swept in w/ that initial $100,000+ getting signatures. It picked up momentum from there.— November 12, 2008 12:15 a.m.
While Public Was Fixated on $700 Bailout's Passage, Treasury Quietly Gave Banks $140 Billion Tax Windfall
You and me are so on the same page Don. Just saw that on MSNBC. I was calling my reps like crazy before bailout was passed as I knew that Paulson was just looking to take all this power while no one was paying attention (during the election and other big news) and pull off the biggest heist in history. We need to look at the whole structure of the Fed. I mean why in the world is it private investors that get a 6% dividend on every dollar it prints (why are we not paying that dividend to ourselves), the Fed CANNOT be audited so it gets to operate under a huge cloud of secrecy. Finally, who are the investors in the Fed? I suspect that the owners of the Fed are in fact the Morgan Stanley's, the Lehman Brothers etc. So essentially we are borrowing billions of dollars to give to them to rescue themselves. They make money on both ends. we lose on bothe ends. Its a shell game.— November 10, 2008 7:24 p.m.
Proposition 8: Indecent Proposal
Also, my point was that if special groups---looks like in this case it was some super conservative developers and mormons hadnt been able to fund committees and put millions into it--If Doug Manchester had been confined to individual campaign contribution limits, I do not believe that the prop would have passed. The polls did not show it passing. It was the terrorizing commercials telling people that if they voted "No" their 1st grader would be taken to a lesbian wedding. I mean, I cant even guess how many times I saw tha commercial--Do you know how expensive those commercials are? Had people been left to their own devices and their own critical thinking skills---I honestly do not belive the majority of people would have voted on it.— November 10, 2008 6:51 p.m.
Proposition 8: Indecent Proposal
There are alot of factors in place. I personally think there should be a separation of church and state. Marriage by its nature is not a separation of church and state. I think we should abolish the construct of marriage as it is and reconstruct marriage inder the law to just be that...legal: a legal union of any 2 people (over the age of 18 of course, Im no NAMBLA fan). Unfortunately, that would require alot. So when I say that no one person's vote should count more than another's---and you mention 61% of people voted against gay marriage. The problem w/ that situation is that we should never have been able to vote on our current construct of marriage for anyone because it combines church and state. It is messed up, but I like that it has started a dialogue and now we have to look at the validity of these social constructs that we have accepted for so long. Believe me, I agree that everyone should have the same rights, but the state shouldn't have the power to grant that to anyone (at least the God part). If we take our government back by eliminating unfair independent expenditures, we can restore a true-er sense of democracy to the people.— November 10, 2008 6:27 p.m.
Goldsmith Memo Proves What Many Suspected: He is not the Sharpest Tool in the Shed, and is Tool of the Mayor
Don, Have you looked into the Hatch Act and if the mayors press conf w/ police chief Landsdowne slamming Aguirre and pushing Goldsmith violated that act since the police are receiveing significant homeland security funds from the federal government, therefore he cannot use his position of authority to effect election results.— November 9, 2008 12:17 a.m.
Doing the Math: Why Was Expected "Record" Voter Turn-out so Low?
I'd agree w/ you except that I was glued to CNN and we didnt know any states til about 6:00pm and that was small ones like Kentucky. It was all up in the air for a while. Also Oregon had an 84% turnout so why did everyone there still vote. Its just weird because its the lowest Presidential turnout San Francisco has ever seen and that doesnt seem consistent. I would just like to get rid of the electronic scanners. Im jealous of Oregon. It must feel so good to know your ballot is handled w/ human hands and tallied.— November 5, 2008 10:02 p.m.
Clawgate Press Conference: Citizens Speak Out About How They Were Slandered By Gloria Mailer
Please district 3 resident. The truth is out. Visit the Building Industry Website and look who the "largest and most powerful developer lobbyist group" is urging you to vote for. They want Todd. It speaks volumes that Todd will be staying at the GOP hotel tomorrow night. I wonder if its one of those independent expenditures. Maybe McMillin bought rooms for all its favorites, Gloria, Thalheimer, Goldsmith and Boling" Something tells me, that is the truth.— November 3, 2008 9:58 p.m.
Goldsmith : B I G Backdoor Money + Ultra Right Wing History = :(
Thank you Fred for your keen insight and wonderful wit. And you are right on.— November 3, 2008 2:55 p.m.
Clawgate: Press Conference Called For Deceptive and Possibly Illegal Campaign Tactics in Gloria's Hit Piece
Stephen davis, Can you do us a favor and at least stop coying and pasting the same thing---its getting so old so fast.— November 3, 2008 2:54 p.m.
