Does new UCAN board want reform?
How much butt has the AG division actually kicked? If none, maybe the window-dressing should be taken down and the slackers fired? If true, this could be the bigger scandal.— January 7, 2013 10:15 p.m.
Does new UCAN board want reform?
Don, I don't believe that Surfpup and Twister are out to get you; neither of us said anything about your being responsible for the pic. We are well aware that you're not responsible for the fotos, but digging in on an otherwise simple issue--izzat overreacting? The pic is possessed by a kind of creep-factor. But let it be . . .— January 7, 2013 10:11 p.m.
Economy for 2013: San Diego worse than state, nation?
But, for an even more basic (and far better) analysis, see: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/07/opinion/krugman…— January 6, 2013 11:11 p.m.
Consider the source: Pygmalion
Jeff: "My Fair Lady" was a L&L masterpiece. Can you comment on the differences between the movie and Shaw's original script--what was missed and what was "added," etc.? Do you know the name of the slim and much younger redhead that was keeping company with Fritz Loewe in the mid-sixties?— January 6, 2013 8:40 p.m.
Economy for 2013: San Diego worse than state, nation?
"(Keep in mind that home values plunged by more than 40 percent beginning in late 2005 and are still down by about 35 percent from that peak. Median home values are above $360,000, among the highest in the nation.)" Keep in mind that "the peak" was the apogee of the bubble, and returning to it is a condition greatly to be feared. Keep in mind that the bulk of the local rise in RE sales is to speculators, who plan to rent to those who can't qualify for a loan. Keep in mind that, as speculators drive RE prices up, they reduce their competition from home-buying families by edging the market higher. Keep in mind that, as Internet sales rise, brick-and-mortar commercial vacancies will rise and commercial rents will have to come down. Keep in mind that a rising tide sinks all anchored boats.— January 6, 2013 8:10 p.m.
Does new UCAN board want reform?
The bigger scandal is that such shameful activity by an NGO diminishes all of them with the same brush. Starting another organization with a fully transparent set of books, charter, and published proceedings could not only perform the functions promised by the contaminated one, it could set a standard of performance for all NGO's. But now we need a new monicker to replace UCAN, maybe a watchdog to match our chains--one that will watch ALL organizations that supposedly serve the public interest, including fiefdoms like the Port Authority and other districts as well as public utilities? Shall we have a naming contest?— January 6, 2013 7:28 p.m.
Does new UCAN board want reform?
This chain of exchanges is pitifully ironic. Think about it--a story complaining about coverups covering up and kissing off a whistle-blower. Surfpuppy is right--even though the pic is probably a photo-shopped gag, such things can give fringe-types ideas that they might act upon, much like other copycats. It should be easy enough to simply explain the facts behind the pic. Have some blackbird pie, Don?— January 6, 2013 7:09 p.m.
Hit-and-run driver in Rancho Santa Fe is reported by a neighbor
"Most likely?" Is that some new concept in the law?— December 31, 2012 9:03 p.m.
Should Jack-in-the-Box stay in Mexican foods?
This company deserves no better than to pass quietly from the scene. They are not in the business of delivering quality, healthful food; they are, and always have been, in the business of making money--nothing else matters to the sleazy ones. Jacques-off En-ze-Box" if I recall the 60's correctly. And a hopeless little twit shall lead them?— December 31, 2012 8:50 p.m.
Why the Yukon will continue to kill divers
