Admitted thief asked court's permission to travel to Mexico
I still cannot figure out how she was able to remove all traces of what the library puts on books to ID them as library books so that she was then able to sell them on eBay. I doubt people ordered books from Amazon or eBay and when they arrived, the people noticed the books had formerly been owned by the public library and just ignored that. I would think someone would have contacted Amazon or eBay and asked what was up. Seems odd to me.

New rules for Oscar shows
I could not agree with you more, Scott. Here was an opportunity for fans to hear some of the best actors we have, say something from their heart, instead of what is in a script, and they get cut off so we can what? Hear more nonsense from Capt. Kirk? Watch a couple of guys dance the soft shoe? WTF? I don't think the Academy truly understands what the Oscars are and what they mean for the millions of viewers that tune in. It's like, "the show must go on, in spite of the audience, and regardless of anything those we are honoring tonight might want to say." (Double WTF?) Remember the good ol' days when the Oscars ran an hour late but you heard things from the award recipients that made you realize they were so much more than the roles you had seen them in? I think the people in the biz--the stars, directors and such, ought to raise hell and let the Academy know this crap with the "theme from Jaws" is totally unacceptable. In fact, Scott, I think if they heard from you....

Oscar Autopsy: John Goodman > Daniel Day Lewis
John Goodman definitely deserves major kudos for the many supporting roles he has played, Matt. No bout a-doubt it, but let me ask you something. I thought The Paperboy was a really good film but was largely overlooked by many, probably because it was just a little too dark and dirty for most people. IMHO, John Cusack played one of the scariest characters since Hannibal, and Nicole Kidman gave us the dumbest, hottest bimbo to appear on screen in recent memory. Matthew Mconaughey was totally spooky and believable; it was a good story and the cast did a fantastic job! So why didn't it get any recognition? What do you think?

Project Pie making progress in Hillcrest
The crust is wafer thin? Oh, please, don't tell me that. I had such high hopes for this place. I love the concept; who can make a more satisfying pizza for me than me? But wafer thin crust? No, no, no! Bad dog. Bad, bad dog! Go back and fix it. It's "pizza Pie;" not pizza cracker; not pizza biscuit; not pizza wafer; it's Pizza Pie! Why do people have such hard time getting this right? Mama mia!

San Diego doctors who make house calls
I love this idea of the doctors doing what they know is best and thumbing their nose at the insurance companies. It reminds of that saying, "What if they threw a party and nobody came?" Well, how about "What if they put together a lousy medical insurance plan and the doctors didn't show up?" Who would have ever thought that it just be some conscientious doctors that would lead the way out of the healthcare mess we find ourselves in? Outstanding!

Medical tourism slows in Tijuana
Oyé, Amigo; I used to go to TJ, and get my drugs for cheep, But now all those headless bodies, are giving me the creeps; I liked to go for dental, the price was nice and low, But getting caught in crossfire, just makes me not want to go; I miss my Senorita, my dentist and doctoor; But losing my head in TJ, is just not worth going for. Maybe mañana.

Interview with a nearly carjacked cabbie in Temecula
Oh yea, I can see that. This guy put himself in harms way when he set himself at odds with his obligation. "At odds with his obligation"? And in light of that the police have a right to shoot the man, in the back perhaps, even though he was apparently unarmed, and even though he was not trying to kill anyone but was merely trying to escape. Oh yea, that definitely is "at odds with his obligation" and we know the authorities have a right to shoot him down. Even the driver said he thought if the guy had a gun he would have pulled it to force him to keep driving. That sounds believable. But don't you worry, A-view; uniformed services are never held responsible for shooting at or killing people. No one will be held accountable and no one will be punished for murdering a fugitive. Not in this part of the country.

Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
Scott, I cannot believe The Reader does not appreciate *and reward* your service and expertise! They should at least cover the popcorn. Thanks for the non-pay parking tips. Forgot about those freebie hours with the meters. Good to know.

La Mesa organizers plan early for Oktoberfest
They seem to be pointing their fingers at the teens but I wonder if these efforts to better control the beer drinking are primarily designed to ensure the mayor doesn't end up passed out in the street?

Review:
Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
Say Scott, Can I ask where you park when you go downtown for a movie now? Are you popping for the $10 at Horton Plaz, or what? Or is it all n/a for you since you get reimbursed? This new Horton thing with the parking has but a crimp in my movie-going.

Seems odd to me.— March 1, 2013 8:48 a.m.
In fact, Scott, I think if they heard from you....— February 25, 2013 11:24 a.m.
What do you think?— February 25, 2013 10:59 a.m.
Mama mia!— February 25, 2013 10:41 a.m.
Outstanding!— February 23, 2013 7:58 p.m.
Maybe mañana.— February 23, 2013 5:54 p.m.
Not in this part of the country.— February 23, 2013 5:15 p.m.
Review: Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
Scott, I cannot believe The Reader does not appreciate *and reward* your service and expertise! They should at least cover the popcorn. Thanks for the non-pay parking tips. Forgot about those freebie hours with the meters. Good to know.— February 22, 2013 10:32 p.m.
La Mesa organizers plan early for Oktoberfest
They seem to be pointing their fingers at the teens but I wonder if these efforts to better control the beer drinking are primarily designed to ensure the mayor doesn't end up passed out in the street?— February 21, 2013 7:57 p.m.
Review: Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
Say Scott, Can I ask where you park when you go downtown for a movie now? Are you popping for the $10 at Horton Plaz, or what? Or is it all n/a for you since you get reimbursed? This new Horton thing with the parking has but a crimp in my movie-going.— February 21, 2013 6:56 p.m.
