Filner did all the right things the wrong way
Filner was blinded by hubris. He should do a secular mea culpa as he is doing. We have to quit placing politicians on a pedestal. Most of them are rather poor role models, ad it turns out. How politicians sell out for campaign contributions is a national disgrace. Just hitting on several women is largely a symbolic problem compared to loss of civil liberties, the economy, war and the environmental catastrophe. Some of the victims need to get over it, quite frankly, take their settlement proceeds and move along. Most should have come forward sooner and they would have saved the rest of us this huge embarassment.— July 28, 2013 1:24 p.m.

Everyone is younger than Filner. His victims are senior citizens and elder abuse law rather than sexual harassment might be applied to rise over 65 Yeats of age. Gloria Allred herself is not getting a y younger, just richer. Boys will be boys (we hope). Or do we? Bob Filner and others like him raise issues of the psychology of power, and of politicians in general. You know they are screwing us... Good points, Don. Filner's compulsion to demean older women by hitting on them is a developer's dream! Behind the scenes are those who were silent. It reminds one of Governor Arnold, who admitted that he groped women BEFORE he was elected. Then he let Enron off the hook. San Diego has been called Enron on the Bay. The parade of Filner victims has convinced San Diego Democrats to ask Filner to step.down., according to Francine Busby, the Chairwoman. The recall election effort will be bankrolled by same interests who will benefit, unless Filner goes of his own volition. Who is a good candidate for Progressives? Nobody that I arenas the guts to stand against the developer/hotelier/construction worker crowd. Expect power to be recalibrated to rubber-stampers in the Development Services Department. Expect higher density development where communities have little say. The Good Ole' Boys are back in control using a moral issue. Amazingly, none actually went to bed with the Mayor. Effective fighters like Michael Aguirre or Bob Filner are nowhere in sight. Expect Miami Beach high-rise on our beaches soon.— July 26, 2013 10:07 a.m.

Funk is a corroborating witness to Ms. McCormack-Jackson's account of Filner' propensity to kid around with female staff. Many men do not realize that times have changed. There are mandatory elimination of bias classes for professionals but none I know of for politicians or Mayors. The City should require this training. We had a Groppanator for Governor. Yet that was know in advance. Arnold got away.with his sordid past because he was a movie actor on steroids.... and a Republican.— July 24, 2013 7:55 a.m.
Something fishy about Filner's accuser: where there is smoke there are mirrors
Here we have a classic "he said, she said." You see this most often in Family Court where spouses are jocking for child custody and a bigger split of the community property. These litigants are well-coached by counsel who charge 400 and 500 dollars per hour to embellish their clients' stories to gain an advantage. Ms. McCormack could have threatened jokingly to Bob Filner that she would file a harassment charge with the DFEH and go to the press. Instead, she allowed the situation to get worse. Her right wing connections will not be lost upon juries as bias. Filner could well have bn joking, but she could have said simply, "I'm not!!!!" Most cowards and/or abusers back right off. Attorneys can refer a case for a percentage so long as the client agrees in writing to a division of fees after a full disclosure of all material facts. Too much should not be read into the apparent referral at this point. Sometimes the referring attorney lacks experience or has a conflict of interest, or both. Allred was heavy-handed at the press conference. She and Filner share one trait - an abrasive demeanor. Many right wingers hate Allred for standing up for women's rights, just as they hate Filner for standing up for veterans and local community plans.
