Tab Benoit’s Soul of the Swamp Tour hits Solana Beach with an opening act soon to embark on its own European and UK headline tour, The Zac Schulze Gang. Formed during the 2020 pandemic, the band’s music mines the swagger of blues rock pioneers such as Rory Gallagher, Dr. Feelgood, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, drawing on UK pub rock tradition with tightly crafted songs that have been honed by years of relentless touring (over 200 shows per year). Fronted by 26 year-old guitarist and vocalist Zac Schulze, alongside his drummer-brother Ben Schulze and bassist Ant Greenwell, the trio won Best Emerging Blues Band at the UK Blues Awards in 2024, followed by a Young Artist of the Year trophy in 2025. Several high profile gigs have earned them press and new fans, including an acclaimed performance at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. They recently released a music video for their track “Hellhounds On My Trail,” taken from their debut album Straight To It, which dropped this month via Ruf Records.

Tim Kasher (Cursive, The Good Life) will be performing at the screening of his new directorial effort Who’s Watching, which debuts in select theaters and on digital platforms on September 18 via Dark Sky Films. Written and directed by Kasher, the film’s plot centers around eccentric musician and aspiring filmmaker named Sampson. Obsessed with his new coworker, Krista, he secretly documents every aspect of her life in an effort to make her the subject of his latest film. As his fixation intensifies, the lines between observer and participant begin to blur, pulling him deeper into a dangerous spiral of surveillance, manipulation, and obsession. The cameras keep rolling, and the question becomes increasingly unsettling: who is really watching who? The advance screening of the film will be followed by a short acoustic set and Q&A with Kasher, who will be releasing the original motion picture soundtrack for Who’s Watching on October 23. The 13-song soundtrack was written by Kasher and is split into a side A that contains songs by Toxic Cock Syndrome (TCS), and a side B that holds the score, as well as a new Cursive song, “Wounded Animal.” TCS is a fictitious metal band featured prominently throughout the film, with the music actually recorded by Kasher (guitar and backing vocals), Isaiah Radke (vocals), Darrion Lewis (guitar), Jonah Ray (drums), and Josh Ethier (bass).

When the reunited Axl, Slash, and Duff took the big stage at Qualcomm Stadium on August 2016 to play a Guns N’ Roses show for around 50,000 fans (their first time in this city since early 1992), few could have guessed that the once famously volatile lineup would still be steamrolling through stadiums a decade later. They were back in 2017 at the 8000-seat Pechanga Arena (not quite selling out the venue), and then they played to around 26,000 people at Snapdragon Stadium in 2023, a sellout crowd. The band’s most recent releases are the double-single tracks “Nothin’” and “Atlas,” which dropped digitally last December. Originating as demos from the Chinese Democracy era, the tracks were reworked by the reunited lineup featuring Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. Opening the night will be The Black Crowes. When they played their first show in six years in 2019, the founding Robinson brothers were backed by an all-new flock of Crowes that included local Earthless guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, who also played several classic tracks with the group during an appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM show. Though Mitchell is no longer touring with the reunited Crowes, they’ve managed to keep busy with projects like their tenth studio album A Pound of Feathers, released in May.
