Star Jasmine's Sweet Perfume, exuded from clusters of small, white flowers, will continue to scent San Diego's spring breezes until sometime in June. Not a true jasmine, or Jasminum, star jasmine belongs to the genus Trachelospermum. In both public and private spaces, it has been widely planted as an ornamental ground cover and as a trellised vine.

Land Bird Migration is in Full Swing This Month in San Diego County, with warblers and flycatchers among those most commonly seen. Warblers crawl along tree limbs and branches to dine on their favorite insects, while flycatchers, as the name suggests, catch their meals on the wing. Riparian areas such as the San Diego River through Mission Gorge and Marian Bear Park in San Clemente Canyon are favored by both birds and birdwatchers.

The Blooming of Coastal Wildflowers is now well underway but disappointing due to the past winter season’s scant rainfall. The biggest variety of blooms may be seen along the trails of Torrey Pines State Reserve. On the grassand brush-covered hillsides of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve and Mission Trails Regional Park in San Diego, and Daley Ranch in Escondido, look for monkeyflower, penstemmon, lupine, and owl’s clover blossoms, to name a few.

On April 25th, The Waning Crescent Moon will share the same patch of sky with Venus, Mercury, Saturn. It will hover to the left of Saturn, and above Mercury with Venus sitting at the top of the grouping.
