Rachel Jay at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa

April 2

Rachel Jay plays a variety of original songs and covers of artists who specialize in acoustic-driven soul. Her own music incorporates elements of jazz, R&B, folk, and pop, and can be likened to classic singer/songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Eva Cassidy, Amy Winehouse, and Norah Jones. Her fanbase began growing upon the release of heartfelt and revealing singles such as her 2022 track “Over Again,” with lyrics like “There is no better mood than that of solitude, to have me feeling safe and sound.” She released her EP Hung Up On Perfection in early 2025, preceded by a single for “Cold Night.” The album was produced by local icon Jeff Berkley, with guests including Josh Weinstein (piano) and Sandi King (vocals). She can frequently be found performing around town at resorts, restaurants, corporate events, coffee shops, nightclubs, weddings, and music venues.

Wax at Athenaeum Music and Arts Library

April 3

The Acoustic Evenings at the Athenaeum series kicks off the season with Wax, Lisa Sanders & Brown Sugar, and Jimmy & Enrique. Wax is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and comedian with a gold record and millions of YouTube views. From viral videos, he went on to sign a recording contract with Def Jam. An album called Lifetime Achievement Award dropped in 2024, produced by Kush Mody (half of pop duo Feed the Biirds), and he recently released a music video for his track “It’s You.” Lisa Sanders & Brown Sugar are a duo known for their soulful country–bluesy Americana sound. Their full-length Shiver was nominated at the San Diego Music Awards for Best Pop Album. Jimmy Patton and Enrique Platas bring world rhythms, including flamenco, salsa, and Brazilian music into their performances. Patton plays a nylon-stringed guitar, Enrique Platas handles percussion (cajon and bongos), and the duo is primarily instrumental, although Platas occasionally sings in Spanish.

April 3 and 4

Founded in 2009, the Schizophonics play fuzzy, psychedelic rock influenced by raucous acts such as James Brown, Iggy Pop, and MC5. In addition to frequent national tours, they’ve also toured overseas and New Zealand and are regulars on the underground festival circuit. They gained a reputation as an intense live act while supporting artists like The Damned and DEVO. Here in San Diego, they’ve worked with local heroes such as John Reis (Rocket From the Crypt) and Mike Stax (The Loons), as well as frequent on-stage collaborations with El Vez, AKA the Mexican Elvis (better known to punk fans as Robert Lopez of the Zeros). They’re playing a two-night stand in Little Italy, with an April 3 bill that includes cat-pop rockers Mittens (who debuted on record with a self-titled 2016 album), Hauntu, and Lightning Woodcock. April 4 features opening acts Mistress 77, Toof Fairy, and Hingada.

The Magical Mystery Campout: Beatles Tribute Fair at DeAnza Springs Resort

April 4 and 5

This year’s two-day Beatles Tribute Fair is being billed as The Magical Mystery Campout, with optimal camping, and more than 20 performers scheduled to appear. In addition to music (hosted by Alma of Queen Bee’s), the event offers hiking, swimming, pool tournaments, pickleball, fashion shows, and vendor booths. Acts slated to appear include Fred Benedetti, who has made a local mark with annual tributes to members of the Fab Four, both collectively and individually. Benedetti began playing the guitar at age nine, going on to become one of twelve guitarists chosen worldwide to perform in a 1986 Master Class with Andrés Segovia at USC. The bill includes 63eatles, whose members have all lived in England, covering early Beatles music, including material up until the point where the original foursome stopped touring. Also appearing is True Stories, Britain's Finest, Revolution Band, Oasiz, That Beatles Cover Band, Clapton Hook Band, Ashley & Friends, Come Together, and Acoustic Universe.

Blues For Greeny at the Belly Up Tavern

April 7

Opening for headliner Coco Montoya with its first public performance, Blues For Greeny is a tribute to early Fleetwood Mac songwriter and guitarist Peter Green fronted by Daniel “Dude” Cervantes of Howlin’ Rain, Mrs. Henry, and The Band tribute Chest Fever. A singer-songwriter, record producer, and label owner, he's also a solo recording artist whose album The Ride or Die of Dude Cervantes & The Panchos, recorded live at The Hotel Cafe, was released in November 2025. Peter Green was a key figure in the 1960s blues scene, replacing Eric Clapton in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers before co-founding Fleetwood Mac in 1967 and penning perennial radio hits like "Albatross," "Black Magic Woman," and "Oh Well." The Blues For Greeny lineup features Cervantes backed by guitarist Dylan Donovan of Sacri Monti, the heavy shuffle drums of Justin De La Vega, and the walking roots bass and vocals of Ryan Grenda. The band will also be performing at the Encinitas Library on April 12, and Cervantes’ other band, Dude Cervantes, appear at Vista’s Booze Brothers Brewing Company on April 10.
