Upcoming Event

Screeching Weasel and The Queers

  • Saturday, September 5, 2026, 7:30 p.m.
  • Observatory North Park, 2891 University Avenue, San Diego
  • Age Limit: 18+

More

Originally formed circa 1986 in the Chicago suburb of Prospect Heights, Illinois, Screeching Weasel combines fast, aggressive punk roots with melodic, hook-driven, Ramones-inspired structures, helping to establish the musical template now known as pop-punk. Contemporary bands like Green Day (whose bassist Mike Dirnt was briefly a Weasel) and Blink-182 owe nearly everything to prototypal classics of the melodic punk genre such as 1991’s My Brain Hurts and the 1993 album Anthem for a New Tomorrow. At age 58, frontman and sole remaining co-founder Ben Weasel is still notorious for his outspoken views and onstage altercations. Their likeminded co-headliners The Queersare also fronted by a sole remaining co-founder, singer-guitarist Joe Queer, the only permanent member since the band formed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1981. Once a flagship act on Lookout! Records alongside bands like Green Day, they too blend bubblegum pop and punk rock with fast, catchy hook-laden three-chord anthems dressed up in melodic vocal harmonies, with lyrics mostly about girls, partying, and partying with girls. The bill includes Toxic Energy, a melodic six-piece Orange County punk band formed in 2016 by singer Greg Dickson.

  • Petco Park, 100 Park Boulevard, San Diego
  • Age Limit: Not available

More

British EDM duo Chase & Status are pioneers of the modern DnB/drum and bass and jungle music scenes. Multi-platinum albums like their 2008 debut More Than a Lot (which topped the UK dance chart), 2011’s No More Idols, and RTRN II Jungle (2019) blend heavy basslines with dubstep and hip-hop, yielding massive hits such as “Blind Faith” (featuring Liam Bailey), “Backbone” (with Stormzy), and “Disconnect” featuring Becky Hill. Their first major underground drum and bass anthem to top the UK Dance Chart was 2008’s “Pieces” featuring Plan B, and they broke into the mainstream UK Top 40 with their 2009 single “End Credits,” also with Plan B, reaching number nine on the UK Singles Chart and landing the track as the theme song for the film Harry Brown. In addition, they’ve collaborated with mainstream artists Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, and Jay-Z, as well as doing global festivals and arena tours with longtime associate MC Rage, and their indie label MTA Records is known for signing emerging talent. Also appearing at the 18-up Gallagher Square event will be Peekaboo, Shosh, Connor Q, and Casey Club.

  • Viejas Arena, 5500 Canyon Crest Drive, San Diego

More

Grammy-winning rapper and producer J. Cole is known for self-produced albums featuring introspective, storytelling lyrics that highlight social issues, as well as personal struggles, all set to commercially platinum beats. Eschewing traditional hip-hop self-aggrandizing, as well as the usual collaborative “guest features,” his album 2014 Forest Hills Drive earned double-platinum sales, cementing a catalog that includes career-making tracks such as his biggest commercial and streaming hit “Middle Child” (which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart) and “No Role Modelz,” a tune that only reached number 36 on the Hot 100 but earned over a three billion streams on Spotify, the first rap song to do so without an official music video. Cole also produces beats for other artists, as well as running his own label Dreamville Records, which signed acts like Ari Lennox and EarthGang. The Fall-Off World Tour, Cole’s first global road trip since 2017, supports his 24-song full-length The Fall-Off, which was released in February and has been promoted as his final studio album. Dates so far have featured Cole performing at least ten of his new songs spread throughout the night, along with mixtape cuts and around two dozen tracks from his entire recording career. Expected and popular setlist staples have included “No Role Modelz,” “Middle Child,” “Love Yourz,” “Power Trip,” “Wet Dreamz,” “G.O.M.D.,” “She Knows,” “Work Out,” and “Can’t Get Enough.” He has also been singing cover selections, including 21 Savage’s “A Lot,” Benny the Butcher’s “Johnny P’s Caddy,” Young Thug’s “The London,” and “Planez” by Jeremih.
