X Ambassadors are known for hit alternative pop-rock songs like "Renegades" and "Unsteady," with a sound that incorporates keyboardist Casey Harris's jazz influences, and for their visually distinctive artwork featuring Braille, reflecting Casey's visual impairment and the band's personal identity. They are also recognized for their advocacy work on mental health issues and their musical contributions to various films, such as Suicide Squad and Sonic the Hedgehog. Their most recent album, Townie, was released in 2024.

Singer-songwriter Cindy Lee Berryhill is a founder of the New York Antifolk (acoustic punk) movement, and was welcomed into the San Diego Music Hall of Fame in 2024. She has toured and performed over the years with The Smithereens, Richard Thompson, The Indigo Girls, X, and others, as well as recording seven solo albums. She’s currently working on her eighth with the same musicians who will be performing with her at this San Diego Folk Heritage show (Willie Aron, John Kruth, and Renata Bratt). The bill includes a solo set from John Kruth, who currently leads the six-piece New York based chamber/rock ensemble The Folklorkestra and has twelve solo albums to his credit, and Los Angeles-based duo Thee Holy Brothers.

For over twenty years now, the ongoing semi-annual compilation series Staring At the Sun has been collecting the best recent local music tracks by a wide variety of acts, covering every imaginable genre. Each edition also features cover artwork created by a well-known local, with the newest release, Staring at the Sun XIV, sporting a colorful design by cartoonist Mary Fleener, famed for works like Chicken Slacks, an anthology of illustrated song lyrics by various contributors. The Little Italy release party for the CD will feature acts represented on the double-disc compilation, including Swive, The Tourmaliners, The Naked I, Fuzz Huzzi, and Split Rail Fence. The show is free, with attendees receiving a free copy of the album album, and free food from Lefty’s Pizza for early arrivals.
