The Zeros, aka "the Mexican Ramones," formed in Chula Vista in 1976, debuting at a dance in Rosarito, Mexico. They would go on to become one of San Diego’s most well-known and respected early punk bands, playing venues such as The Masque and Whisky Au Go-Go in L.A., San Francisco's Mabuhay Gardens and Deaf Club, and CBGB's and Max's Kansas City in New York City. The group has since splintered and reformed in various incarnations. In essence, there are currently two bands now operating at The Zeros, each with two of the original key members. Robert Lopez founded The Zeros ’77 with Hector Penalosa in order to promote a recent Bomp Records reissue of the Zeros material, Don’t Push Me Around, which compiles all their early singles, some rare tracks (including the previously unreleased “Left to Right”) and songs from a 1978 concert. The show is headlined by The Avengers, with opening acts to include the Hector Penalosa Gang.
