In wake of #StopTheBans protests, Kevin Faulconer pledges support for abortion rights in Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri

America’s Finest Mayor?

Protestors gather outside the downtown Federal Courthouse to call for a stop to state laws that stop providers from stopping pregnancies. “Frankly, it’s a bit confusing,” admitted the mayor, “but one thing is for certain: speaking out is the least I can do. Also, the most I can do. But anyway.”

Faulconer: “I promise you, ladies, that I see you and hear you. I will not act to restrict abortion rights in San Diego. Or, for that matter, in any other place: in California, or America, or even Alabama. I know that as a Republican, this is something of a controversial position for me to take. But it also seems risky to just ignore you guys…gals…ladies…women…people. I had advisers who counseled me against getting into bed with, er, hooking up with, um, aligning myself with you. But in the end, it’s my choice, and here I am.”

Asked what he thought about calls to for Hollywood to boycott Georgia as a film and television production site, and for viewers to boycott shows that continued to film there, Faulconer warned against “meeting extremism with extremism. There must be room for dialogue in American political life, even when there is profound disagreement. I mean, I’m not about to miss Season 10 of The Walking Dead just because some ladies are mad about stuff that’s happening thousands of miles away.”
