Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos begins an action-packed evening at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) when he hosts the Young Lions Series this week featuring pianist Brenda Greggio at 6 p.m. From there, he leads the Latin Jazz Jam Session at 8:30 p.m. with pianist Irving Flores and drummer Julien Cantelm until 11:30 p.m. All ages, no minimum, musicians bring your instruments… Vocalist Leonard Patton duets with pianist Michael Leroy Peed at the La Valencia Hotel (1132 Prospect) from 6 to 10 p.m. No cover charge… Guitarist Peter Sprague plays in duo with flutist Beth Ross Buckley at the Balboa Public Library (4255 Mount Abernathy Avenue) at 6 p.m. in a free concert.

Former San Diego trombone man Matt Hall returns to town to lead the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) with a trio featuring bassist Bob Magnusson and guitarist Peter Sprague from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… Gilbert Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate featuring L.A. pianist Sam Hirsh in the Plaza Bar (1055 Second Avenue) from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover but there is a $20 food/drink minimum.

Get your Jazz Vespers on with Archie Thompson at the First Presbyterian Church (320 Date Street) at 4:30 p.m…The Saturday Spotlight at the Westgate Hotel Plaza Bar features vocalist Allison Adams Tucker leading a trio with pianist Danny Green and bassist Justin Grinnell from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover charge, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum… HUMANKIND with guitarist Louis Valenzuela, vocalist Lexi Pulido, and a drummer TBA will play Café 21 between 6 and 9 p.m. No cover.
