KSDS presents Jazz Live at the Saville Theatre on the campus of San Diego City College (14th & C Street) featuring the Joshua Breakstone Trio with Chris Connor on bass and Roy McCurdy on drums. Doors open at 7:30, concert starts at 8 p.m. Free to Jazz 88 members, $10 general admission.

Wednesday 9
The Leonard Patton Duo with Ed Kornhauser plays the La Valencia Hotel ( 1132 Prospect Street) at 6 p.m. No cover… Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series this week featuring the students of the International Academy of Jazz San Diego under the direction of Rob Thorsen outside on the patio before heading indoors at 8:30 to lead the jam session. All ages, no cover.

Trumpeter Gary Rich leads a trio with pianist Jason Shatill and bassist Rob Thorsen at Harbor Music Hall (1506 India Street) with a jam session to follow from 7:30 to 10:30. No cover.

Leonard Patton leads a trio with Peter Sprague and Mackenzie Leighton for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… The Derringer Blues do their thing at Proud Mary’s Southern Bar & Grill (5550 Kearny Mesa Road) at 7 p.m. No cover… Gilbert Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate with Marshall Hawkins and Bob Boss in the Plaza Bar (1055 Second Avenue) from 8 to 11 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum.

There’s a double-bill concert going down at the Taoist Sanctuary (4229 Park Boulevard) featuring Serious Runners with Lou Damian, Scott Nielson, and Nathan Hubbard plus Toques with Nathan Hubbard and Steuart Liebig. $5 at the door… Peter Sprague & Leonard Patton play Ki’s Restaurant (2591 South Coast Highway) at 7:30 p.m. No cover charge… Allison Adams Tucker presents Saturday Spotlight: Women with Melonie Grinnell and Evona Wascinski at the Westgate Hotel Plaza Bar at 8 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum.
