Tuesday 20
Jazz legend Charles Lloyd returns to La Jolla with Gerald Clayton on piano, Rueben Rogers on bass and Kendrick Scott on drums to the Athenaeum Jazz at TSRI (10620 John Jay Hopkins Drive) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 general admission, $30 Athenaeum members … the JazzMikan Trio with Mikan Zlatkovich, Bryan Cabrera and bass TBA play Eddie V’s (1270 Prospect) 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. No cover … Leonard Patton and Nina Francis perform at Croce’s Park West from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos begins his double-shift night at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) by hosting the Young Lions Series this week featuring Julian Esparza from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. After that, he leads the jazz jam session from 8:30 to 11:00 p.m. All ages, no cover.

The AAA Jazz Celebration Series continues with Rebecca Jade exploring the songbooks of Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan with Rob Whitlock and Charles Weller at Northern Spirits Jazz Club (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. No cover, no minimum.

Friday 23
The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Fernando Gomez play the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North ) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum … Lorraine Castellanos presents a Tribute to Nina Simone with Gilbert Castellanos, Ed Kornhauser, Dean Hulett and Charlie Weller at the Westgate Hotel at 7:00 p.m. $89 includes a 3-course dinner … Abstrack featuring Hugo Suarez play Panama 66 at 7:00 p.m. No cover.
