Wednesday7
Gilbert Castellanos begins his evening at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) by hosting the Young Lions Series at 6 p.m. This week featuring the 11 a.m. International Academy of Jazz class directed by Rob Thorsen with Nick Caldwell, Veena Dorazio, Benny Simon, Dharma Dorazio, and Bryce Jacobs outside on the patio before heading indoors at 8:30 p.m. to lead the Latin jazz jam session with Irving Flores on piano.

Thursday 8
The Gary Rich Trio with Dean Hulett on bass and Jason Shattil on piano play Harbor Music Hall (1506 India Street) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for a $10 cover charge.

Friday 9
Drummer Ryan Shaw fronts a trio with Miles Jensen and Justin Grinnell for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… Gilbert Castellanos leads a trio with bassist Marshall Hawkins and pianist Joshua White at the Westgate Hotel Plaza Bar (1055 Second Avenue) at 8 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum… The JazzKatz Orchestra featuring vocalist Allison Adams Tucker under the direction of Chaz Cabrera play Dizzy’s at Arias Hall (1717 Morena Boulevard) at 8 p.m. $15 cash at the door… The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Richard Sellers play Bourree Southern Bistro (6523 University Avenue) from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover… The Leonard Patton Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Dean Hulett play Harbor Music Hall from 8 to 11 p.m.

Sunday 11
A Christmas Concert featuring vocalist Daneen Wilburn with Kamau Kenyatta, Michael Kennedy, Tonga Ross Ma’u, Tim Newton, and Curtis Taylor has, unfortunately, already sold out. 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) for those who already have tickets… Sassy Sunday with Lorraine Castellanos and Ed Kornhauser goes down at the Turf Supper Club (1116 25th Street) at 8 p.m. No cover… The Zo Shah/Robert Dove duo have another gig at the Birch Aquarium from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $18 gets you into the aquarium.
