After more than a month on the run, authorities have recaptured an inmate from San Diego's R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility who escaped while in transit back to prison from a trial for additional charges in Tennessee.

Per a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation release, special agents with the department arrested 35-year-old Joshua Drinnon without incident at a homeless services facility near Ashland, Oregon on Monday (October 12).

After receiving a six-year sentence for his involvement in a Tennessee robbery that was to have been served following a scheduled 2025 release from the California penal system for similar charges, Drinnon slipped away from guards at a rest stop in Illinois during his trip back to San Diego.

Local authorities conducted a manhunt for a few days, giving up when no leads surfaced leading to Drinnon. At that point the U.S. Marshals' office became involved, and further investigation led authorities to Oregon.

The corrections department notes that it has a success rate of 98.5 percent in eventually locating escapees.
