Calico bass live to die another day

The daily bag and possession limit for calico bass (also known as kelp bass), barred sand bass, and spotted sand bass is five fish in any combination of species. The minimum size limit is 14"  total length or 10" alternate length.

March 23 dock totals

33 anglers aboard the Dolphin 1/2 day am run caught 11 sculpin, 64 rockfish, 1 lingcod and 2 calico bass. Their 1/2 day pm run with 18 anglers aboard returned with 2 sheephead, 43 rockfish and 11 calico bass, with 100 calico bass released.

The Malihini 3/4 day run to the Coronados did well again, reporting 2 bonito, 2 barracuda and 49 yellowtail caught by the 40 anglers aboard.

16 anglers aboard the Premier 1/2 day am run boated 8 calico bass, 2 bonito and 8 rockfish, with 70 calico bass released. Their pm 1/2 day run with 20 anglers aboard returned with 1 bonito, 8 calico bass, 1 sheephead, 6 rockfish and 2 sculpin in the gunnysacks. They released 50 calico bass that were under the 14" minimum size limit.

The Sea Trek 1/2 day am run with 19 anglers aboard reported 100 sanddab, 3 chilipepper, 1 vermilion rockfish, 13 rockfish and 17 blacksmith caught.

14 anglers aboard the Daily Double 1/2 day am run boated 37 rockfish, 1 cabezon, 2 sculpin, 1 sheephead, 1 bonito, 19 calico bass. They released 100 short calico bass.

25 anglers aboard the Pacific Voyager 3/4 Day run to the Coronado Islands caught 101 yellowtail, 1 sheephead, 1 rockfish, 1 lingcod and 3 barracuda.

The New Seaforth 1/2 day am run with 35 anglers aboard reported 47 vermilion rockfish and 35 rockfish caught, while their pm 1/2 day run with 37 anglers aboard called in with 42 rockfish, 7 sculpin and 52 vermilion rockfish in the sacks.

El Gato Dos took 6 anglers out for a brief 1/2 pm run and reported 11 rockfish caught.
