Tijuana Named Most Hated City in the World by CNNGo

Yesterday, June 11th, CNNGo released a list of the most hated cities in the world. Tijuana took the number one spot on the list.

The report states that the list is “not the worst cities in the world, they're the best at bugging people. Introducing the places guaranteed to swing your mood southward”.

The report does state that Tijuana has a lower murder rate and carjacking rate than Philadelphia. It claims the reason for topping the list is for its ruined public image in recent years. “Drug cartel violence. The recession. Recent swine flu outbreaks. If any place can rebound from all this, it’s TJ.”

CNNGo, which is a CNN affiliate, is an online sight for travel news. The site is based around travel in Asia, but touches on other global destinations as well.

No details were released on how the list was compiled or what data led to the results. Los Angeles also made the list at number five.

Tijuana has always had a PR problem. However, I live quite comfortably, more cheaply and with better food than in San Diego. It's good to know that Philadelphia has a worse murder rate than Tijuana. Why is it that the U.S. media doesn't divulge that as much as it attacks Tijuana? There's a lot of bigotry, racism, predujice and red-neckism involved in criticizing Tijuana and Mexico in general. If you aren't in the drug trade, your probability of facing a mugging or gun attack is practically nil, with the usual exceptions due to bad luck; certainly better than in Philadelphia and many other U.S. cities (and towns).
