After a period without much making much noise, the Bonnie Dumanis for Mayor campaign appears to be ramping up. This afternoon she announced some new political backers: Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs, and California Board of Equalization Vice-Chair Michelle Steel. This comes on the heels of a Friday comment on the economy.

“Bonnie has a long range vision of a better San Diego and she’s the only mayoral candidate with the leadership and executive experience to get us there,” said Jacobs in a press release. He joins departing mayor Jerry Sanders, Sheriff Bill Gore, and a handful of others including city council member Kevin Faulconer in endorsement of Dumanis’ candidacy.

Still, Dumanis appears to be facing an uphill battle. A recent poll shows Dumanis coming in third, behind Democrat Bob Filner and fellow GOP candidate Carl DeMaio. Of course, it should be noted that a principal of the firm that conducted the poll is also a DeMaio financial backer.

Protest of Bonnie Dumanis-- FOR DIANA. Wednesday, September 21 · 9:30am - 12:30pm. Saville Theater at San Diego City College. 1313 Park Blvd. San Diego, California.

"Thank you everyone for your support! Today we received amazing news...DA Bonnie Dumanis has cancelled her appearance at City College:) We are so proud of the students, faculty, staff and community members who called her office over and over again asking her not to come! We will likely be hosting an open mic/information session about Diana's case at the same time and place...stay tuned!"

Bonnie Dumanis, even being “3rd”, doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell of becoming mayor. She is like Sarah Palin trying to run for president in 2012. Bonnie is DOA as we speak. We know she lies, play favorites and abuses her power. If San Diegans do not want the same thing they have been getting, that is bad governance, then don’t vote for Bonnie. Just look at her “endorsements…” The same old fat middle-aged males that have destroyed San Diego in the past 20 years. It reads like a list of the San Diego Good Old Boy’s Club. For God’s sake, don’t hand the city over to an East Coast carpet bagging corrupt scallywag like Dumanis.

So, did no other mayoral candidate say anything recently because this has been the second empty Reader story about Dumanis?

Getting Irwin Jacobs' support is certainly significant. The tech people were flocking to Fletcher. Maybe some of them now will give Dumanis a look.
