Steph Johnson: Nature Girl release party, March 16, @ Sunset Temple
The soulful vocalist is celebrating her new CD with bassist Rob Thorsen and drummer Fernando Gomez, plus special guests.
Guitar-slinging vocalist Steph Johnson is hosting the official CD Release party for her brand-new album Nature Girl on March 16, at the Sunset Temple, located at 3911 Kansas, in North Park.
Nature Girl has been receiving quite a bit of airplay on KSDS and KRPI lately, and this would represent an excellent opportunity to pick up a personal copy.
"I am so excited to have this record out--because it really sounds like me--what I'm doing now," says Johnson, adding, "it was recorded live, with Rob Thorsen on bass and Fernando Gomez on drums, and the response so far has been overwhelming!"
Last weekend, Johnson played a gig at 98 Bottles with her core trio augmented by Tonga Ross-Ma'u on piano and Monette Marino on percussion.
"They just took it up to a higher level," Johnson said. "There's more harmonic things going on--at the end of the night people were on their feet dancing. They are not just incredible musicians--they're really good friends of mine-- so we decided to do it again--it was an incredibly joyful experience--there was a moment when I actually checked out of my body, that's when you know that you've had a great show."
The Sunset Temple is an intimate, acoustically pristine venue that seats about 200. It's open to all ages but there will be a bar available for those who want to get their drink on.
Concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 students.
