This coming weekend carries some quality concert opportunities to hear local artists.
For Friday, The Grossmont Symphony has prepared a concert for those who love and appreciate the sacred feminine. Local soprano Anna Belaya joins the orchestra for Gorecki Symphony No. 3: Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.
The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs was an international phenomenon when it was recorded in the 90's with soprano Dawn Upshaw. Anna Belaya is a local singer that we all need to hear. Her singing has beauty and power. Do not miss this concert, October 21st at 8 pm. It's free.
My Saturday choice is Orchestra Nova and local pianist Ines Irawati. The concert is based on Mozart's love affair with city of Prague. The performance is at Qualcomm Hall in Sorrento Valley, Saturday October 22nd at 7:30 pm. Ines Irawati (pictured above) is one of San Diego's hidden treasures.
Mozart says: "Ah... Prague. How I have loved thee."
I'd say my choice for Sunday is Koday's Missa Brevis performed by the San Diego Master Chorale. The concert is at 1st United Methodist at 7:00 pm and there is a $10 suggested donation.
