Mozart and Neuroscience

Mozart makes you smarter? Find out Saturday night at The Neuroscience Center. Is there a more appropriate venue?

At 6:30 pm, the presentation starts with "with an eclectic music-brain exposition" curated by Tim Mullen and Grace Leslie of UCSD's Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience.

Following Mullen and Leslie are neurobiologist Dr. Aniruddh Patel and cellist Ronald Thomas. They will be exploring why we find specific sound qualities to be pleasing.

The presentation is scheduled to be two and a quarter hours in length and costs $25. For reservations call 619-466-8742.

There are at least 10 classical music concerts on Sunday. Of these concerts, there are a few that stand out.

La Jolla Presbyterian is performing John Rutter’s Requiem amongst other pieces by the composer. The concert is at 7:00 pm.

Metropolitan Opera Baritone, Theodore Lambrino and wife Hallie Neil are singing everything from Broadway to Puccini at St. Elisabeth Seton Parish in Carlsbad. This concert is at 4:00 pm and tickets are $15.

At 2:00 pm on Sunday the Poway Community Orchestra performs an all-Mozart concert at the Poway Performing Arts Center. Pieces on the program include Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3 and Symphony No. 40.

You can get the skinny on Mozart at The Neuroscience Center on Saturday and then test it out in Poway on Sunday.
