According to documents obtained by ESPN's Outside The Lines, San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera and relief pitcher Fautino De Los Santos are among five players appearing in documents obtained by the investigative series. The South Florida clinic, Biogenesis, was reportedly run by Anthony Bosch, and has since shut down.

Cabrera faced media in the Peoria, Arizona spring training complex on Wednesday and vowed to cooperate with the investigation by Major League Baseball. He also apologized to his teammates for being a distraction.

In an interview on Wednesday afternoon on The Darren Smith Show on 1090 AM, the Padres flagship radio station, General Manager Josh Byrnes indicated that Cabrera had been forthright. Byrnes had learned about the matter through media and then talked to Cabrera privately.

"I got a real sense that there was real determination on his side," Byrnes said. "I think he wants to cooperate. As far as the ultimate question, did he do anything wrong, I don't know that, but I think he's handled his business [with the media] very well."

Everth Cabrera, 26, came to the Padres organization in the 2009 Rule 5 draft from the Colorado Rockies. Last season, Cabrera led the National League in stolen bases with 44 and hit .246 in 115 games.

Relief pitcher Fautino De Los Santos, 27, was claimed off of waivers by the Padres in early February, from the Milwaukee Brewers. De Los Santos has appeared in 40 games over two seasons with the Oakland Athletics in 2011 and 2012 and has a career 4.21 earned run average over 36 1/3 innings pitched.

The documents do not prove that either player used performance enhancing drugs. According to ESPN, the documents contain the names of the players along with the fees charged.

Cabrera was listed as having paid a $1500.00 fee while De Los Santos was charged $700.00, both dated as being applied in March. ESPN is presuming the year to be 2012, although that is not indicated, nor are the procedures or medications specified for either player.

Notes:

The Padres open up the Cactus League schedule for spring training games with their annual charity game against the Seattle Mariners on Friday. The results of that game do not count in Cactus League play, but beginning on Saturday, the results become official for spring training in Arizona. The game starts at 12:05 PM PST and can be heard on radio ESPN 1700 AM.
