Cop Shooting at Gay Pride

When police officers do stupid stuff, I'll be the first one to reem them. Although I had no problem with that Charger being shot, I thought that Coronado police officer did about five things wrong, and shouldn't be allowed to carry a badge.

The Oceanside police officer that shot the woman and her young kid...I felt, from the little we know about the case, he didn't need to unload his gun into her car. In that case, I hope the woman never gets her kid back. Never gets to drive again. And, the officer loses his badge.

But one thing I can't stand, is when officers get sued for shooting people. If you watch Cops or any of those shocking video shows that involve law enforcement...you'll see so many episodes in which you can tell the "bad guy" is ready to jump on the cop, or flee, or pull a weapon. The officer is telling them not to move, or to put their hands up, and they won't comply. Then the officer is tackled, or punched, or shot at. And sometimes, it's too late.

So when I heard about the case last weekend, during the gay pride parade, I thought it was odd. Some men chartered a boat. They had a big party. A man, who I heard on the news, starred in an adult film...somehow fell overboard. A few reports said he jumped overboard. People on the boat tried to rescue him, and it appeared he didn't want to be rescued.

The Harbor Police tried to rescue him, and he "apparently" fought them off. They tried to taser him...and the reports are that he grabbed the taser and hit a cop with it, before another officer shot and killed him.

Now, these are the reports I've heard. Some of the facts can be off a little.

I'm also hearing that the family of this guy either is planning, or already, is suing. And this, to me, is insane.

If my brother, or any family member, did something like this...I would send an apology to the police. I would thank them for the rescue attempt. I'd apologize that they felt their lives were at risk.

And, my only hope is that if the officers are cleared in a court of law, (not just by Bonnie, who seems to clear all officers, of everything)...I hope there's a countersuit. I want this family to pay all the legal costs. Why should tax payers have to shoulder that?

And, I want the family to have to pay some amount for, well, I don't know the legal term. But, the type of slander that the police force had to deal with by being accused of falsely shooting someone. Because, even if they are cleared, the stories have already made the papers. And, a certain segment of the population says "yep, the cops are shooting people again." Believe me, I know. I play basketball with people like that. I've tried to talk sense into them.

And, why shouldn't the cops make some money for that? I just heard about a gang member that made almost 2 million dollars from the city of Los Angeles for being wrongly accused of killing someone and spending 14 years in prison.

Sure, he may not have killed the person. And it's great DNA cleared him. But, there must've been a reason the police charged him, and a jury found him guilty. And since he isn't, he gets a big payday. All for being a gang member.

So, let's give the cops a big payday. From the family of the dead victim, that feels it necessary to sue, or talk of suing, before all the facts are in.
