Blood Makes Noise.
The Suzanne Vega concert. And the idiots in the crowd.
Blood Makes Noise. And so do concert goers.
I left an amazing party in the SDSU area, to go see Suzanne Vega at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. I met a few friends there, and near the merchandise booth, ran into a guy that runs Record City in Hillcrest. He told me he loved the opening singer, but the crowd wouldn't shut up long enough for him to hear the George Jones cover.
I told him Stan Ridgway (Mexican Radio) has twice yelled at crowds for similar things.
With that in mind, when Vega started, and three Asian women behind me were talking loudly, I turned around and stared at them for a few seconds. They continued. When I turned back around, before the song ended, I put my finger over my mouth. They were quiet for a few seconds, then started talking again. Loudly.
When the second song started, I turned around and said, "You three need to be quieter, or go outside. You can talk out there." They said, "You aren't serious?" I said, "Oh yeah, I'm serious." I turned back around, because if I said anything else, I'd be as much of a distraction to the people around us as they were.
A few more times they said "He's not serious. What a jerk. It's a free country. Who doesn't talk at concerts?"
I wanted to turn around and say "It's not Metallica. She has an acoustic guitar. So shut up!"
I knew security wouldn't do anything. And, I knew the losers around me wouldn't. Nobody ever has the B**** to say anything to rude people.
Near the end of her set, the guitarist, who kept looking over, put his finger to his mouth. The girls, who had three more, who were drunk blondes, all got the hint and went outside.
We got to hear the encore, with no interruptions.
She never did do 99.9, or Objects....but she did Blood Makes Noise, my favorite tune. And I heard the last two songs with no noise. So it wasn't a total loss.
