Crime Cam Stolen!
About three years ago, I too was at home (Miramar Ranch North) at about 9:30 in the morning when there was a knock at my door. From upstairs, I watched a young Asian man walk across my driveway and over to the side of my house and I knew what he was about to do. An unfamiliar SUV was parked out front. I ran downstairs; out my back door; around the side of the house and repeated "excuse me" in a firm but calm tone as I walked toward him. He stood there frozen with a crowbar in his hand. I calmly and quietly asked him "What are you doing?" twice. He never responded and wouldn't look up. Because I grew up in a "Barrio" in Los Angeles, I was not afraid to confront him (I am 58, 4'11", 160lbs and female) but I knew not to antagonize him, disrespect him or threaten him. He then jumped the gate and ran over to the car waiting out front. I called in the plate number to the police. SDPD told me the car had been stolen in RP and that the burglar had tried to break into three more homes after mine. The car was abandoned at a high school and they were not caught. At the time, Scripps-Miramar Ranch North only had one patrol car. I wouldn't recommend confronting burglars but the police don't have the resources to protect us from these bold thieves. I won't ever have one but I understand why people own guns and big dogs.— February 12, 2009 2:03 p.m.
For 2010, 2011, and 2012 seasons, San Diego Opera cuts back to four operas instead of the usual five
Another reason could be, and it has to be said...San Diegans are just not interested in the Fine Arts. Culturally and technologically San Diego is too diverse to support one venue, especially in the performing arts. Older benefactors are passing on in larger numbers and there aren't enough new benefactors to make up for the loss. Scaling down perfomances makes sense, as well as, finding new suppliers and dumping the "designers" that charge upscale prices for their services and products based on wanting to keep their upscale livestyle going. And, let me guess, is the stage crew union labor like the guy on Broadway that sweeps the stage between acts for $100,000 a year? Good luck with that.— February 12, 2009 1:01 p.m.
Obama Hung From Tree
Why the assumption that it was one of the students that did it? Maybe it was someone who is anti-religion and didn't like the "Act Six" program. Someone like..let's see..Bill Maher? Seriously, we should consider that it could have been done by someone outside the campus. This immediate negative reaction to something religious, especially Christian, is becoming a trend and is very disturbing. Will Christians be asked to sew crosses on their lapels? As for Maher - if there is no God then he just made a movie about nothing. For someone who doesn't believe he exists; he sure thinks about him alot. God does work in mysterious ways.
