San Diego U-T, brought to you by SDG&E
This is terrible. All the conflicts of interest. Just awful for the future.— September 16, 2016 2:24 p.m.
Qualcomm V.P. funds wife's House race with $2.1 million
Somehow, that photo looks like a set from Saturday Night Live. And somehow, the husband raising the money for the wife does not seem quite right.— August 11, 2016 9:12 p.m.
San Diego’s GOP big-money trash angel wants to dump Trump
That is a lot of money Herzog gave. You'd think he would have a higher profile but no doubt smarter to keep a low one, when you're buying your way to more power and more money. Don't think anyone will succeed dumping Trump, but we shall see. Risky business, trying to turn things around from the smoke-filled rooms (or big conference calls).— June 21, 2016 1:07 p.m.
Gannett wants a crack at the Union-Tribune
Hope we get a good local daily back some day. Not holding my breath. Re your quote from UT on Chargers press conference, LT speaking: “If Junior was here, you know where he would be,” Tomlinson said. Of course, that's the point. He isn't. Totally insensitive. Lame PR guys at the Chargers head office, or they are speaking to a lame audience. Or both. Seems as though it's all about football in San Diego, and investors and shareholders in the newspaper business.— April 25, 2016 9:50 p.m.
Jail diplomas in demand
“Is your organization capable of providing academic programs at no cost to the County?” Huh? Many non-profit organizations are subsidized by government/taxpayers in large part anyway, so maybe the "County" just wants someone else to pay. Or maybe they're moving the "teacher" budget item over to the Chargers donation budget item?— March 10, 2016 3:23 p.m.
Big Khosla is Watching
"His expertise in engineering and computer science, in particular with video analytics and artificial intelligence, is a valuable asset to Avigilon...." the company says. Strange, I thought his expertise as a fundraiser/manager/leader/academic etc was supposed to be a "valuable asset" to the taxpayers of California. Like, valuable, to the tune of $455,000 dollars. Totally wrong. And of all people, for a Chancellor, who presumably has a more than full time job. The UC Davis (Katehi) situation is more egregious but both are nothing more than self-serving.— March 7, 2016 4:57 p.m.
Lifeguard to run for mayor
Harris was popular with Democrats and independents when he was on the City Council. Will need to read up on his positions, but this is good news for Democrats and makes the City look more alive, with a little competition for the incumbent Mayor.— March 1, 2016 5:32 p.m.
Is the Chargers' favorite city about to get dirtied up?
That old U-T: a "downtown sports entertainment district that many people surely will enjoy" - They are hilarious.— February 25, 2016 8:56 p.m.
Spanos clan saves its charity for Stockton
Junior Charger girls? For young girls to become mini-cheer-leaders? That is so pathetic.— February 15, 2016 3:30 p.m.
Can Bruce Henderson be detained at Guantanamo until this is all over?
“The only thing government can do is get out of the business of providing a venue for sports teams,” Henderson says. Right again. How refreshing to think of an elected official actually reading the contract. And feeling sick that it didn't protect the taxpayers. And how sad that we rarely see or hear of elected officials like that any more. Being smart and doing his job was actually quite dangerous in Henderson's case. Pathetic, the inability of the City to stand up against professional for-profit sports interests.— February 11, 2016 9:21 p.m.
