A Cop and Contestant in a Pagaent
Arrested Dev. has also been recommended to me a lot. The few episodes I saw didn't do much for me. But I'm willing to give it a shot. I missed a lot of series from the beginning that I had to catch up on on dvd. I may get around to AD in 2012.— April 23, 2009 5:55 p.m.
Electric Cigarettes, Cyrus, Homeless, Chinese...Something offensive for everyone!
I think cigarette litter is a subject not mentioned enough. How many items can think of where you're almost expected to litter with it when you're finished. I once walked down the street trying to keep my head down and just look at the discarded cigarettes. The number I saw was very large and disheartening. And that was just a few block stretch.— April 23, 2009 5:51 p.m.
Police Officer Shootings
Josh...in all fairness, I was saying the cops get the benefit in the investigation with some suspicion. And the fact is if 99% of cop incidents don't result in shootings and we never likely hear of it, the few that do should be investigated thoroughly and we shouldn't automatically take the cop's side just because they have a hard job to do. And there is a difference between a shard of glass and a gun. Especially from a distance.— April 20, 2009 12:34 a.m.
Police Officer Shootings
Josh, Let me start with the cliches...there are good cops and bad cops and cops who are better trained than others and yes they are all human beings. And yes if I need help I will call them. And they no doubt have to deal with bad people all the time. And I don't think citybeat is anti-cop. Should we just assume the cops are always right and not ask questions? It does seem to me that whenever I hear a story about an investigation into a police shooting, the verdict is in the cop's favor. I don't know all the facts on Jacob so I can't say what was in the cop's minds or if it looked like he was reaching for something. Yes if you're stopped you shouldn't make any movement that could be misconstrued. I'm sure people get nervous when pulled over and don't think clearly. Car registrations are usually kept in the glove compartment. (Not saying this appies to Jacob's case.) As far as the old man is concerned, I assume cops are trained to deal with these situations. Did they really think they were in danger from an 87 year old man in a diaper even if he had a shard of glass? They couldn't have have aimed for his legs? I find it hard to believe there was no other way out of this. Julieparrots...how ironic that the mind boggling number of guns and the criminalization of drugs (two right wing favorites)make us need the police even more. (Law enforcement and the military, another one.) And Mindy, your son pulled out a gun and started shooting. No one would argue that the cops would be justified in taking out a person who does that. And I'm sorry about your stepson.— April 19, 2009 10:32 p.m.

Live from New York...It's Saturday Night!
I admit I don't listen to Miller's show. He'd be hard to take even if i agreed with him. (Which was the case for a couple of Air America people when it was airing in SD.) Couldn't stand him on SNL. Not funny, just smug laughing at his own 'nobody got my reference' jokes. But the soundbites I have heard give me no reason to think otherwise. And I'm no 'Obama is the savior' guy. He's not liberal enough for me and not going ahead with the torture investigation (which was a done deal before the election in my view) gives me pause. But any right wing personality who never uttered one word of criticism during the last eight years (don't know if Miller is one of them but the few times I caught him it sounded so) in my opinion should just shut the f up because they care not a whit for this country. If a conservative can say that Bush was one of the worst if not the worst president we ever had, I might be more open to a criticism of the democrats from that person. Sometimes life is too short for some things and for me, spending even one minute listening to Miller, even if he lets democrats call in, is one minute too much. Agreed on Murray and I hated Rushmore and the director. Ditto Royal Tennenbaums. Last one was ok (train to India). Only saw it cause of Duncan's 3 star review.— April 17, 2009 8:19 p.m.
Domino's (the pizza, not the game)
Yeah, forgot to mention Elvis in my list of faves. I even like a lot of the cheesy movie stuff. Love most of 50's rock and doo-wop.— April 17, 2009 7:49 p.m.
Live from New York...It's Saturday Night!
I think Ackroyd has to top it for the sheer number of characters he did well, real and imaginary. Murray is overrated. A two note comedian who now wants to be taken seriously as a two note actor. David Spade???!!! I find Miller hard to take. So frickin smug and goes off on the democrats as if there was something to be proud of the last eight years.— April 17, 2009 1:07 a.m.

Domino's (the pizza, not the game)
Not to mention Domino's did (does?) donate to right wing causes. Boycott McDonalds! Fats over Elvis?????— April 17, 2009 12:56 a.m.
