Open-door Airbnb in Burlingame
Let's pretend for a moment that she was not on AirBNB, and that she just had a lot of friends who loved to drive up in their cars with out-of-state plates, park on the PUBLIC street, and walk in with their luggage behind them. Would the neighbors still be upset? Would they still complain? Would any city agency take any action? This is what drives me berserk about the whole dumb AirBNB whining situation. These people studiously ignore what any rational person would say is the problem (loud parties, etc. which are already illegal and for which there are already remedies) to focus on what is NOT the problem (the fact that people are making money).— May 6, 2015 12:11 p.m.
For the love of dog
Those who have an unreasoning hatred and fear of <insert subject here> always have a rationalization for why their hatred and fear is justified and NOTHING like the hatred and fear that others have for something else. I have a very good reason to hate X, but you're a terrible bigot if you hate Y, and if you ask me to explain the difference, that only underscores how right I am and how wrong you are, that you can't even understand!— May 6, 2015 12:05 p.m.
Hip-ocrisy or versatility?
I would love to hear those who screech about "corporations" define that word.— May 6, 2015 12:03 p.m.
Brains…if only the city had brains
A permit is a piece of paper. What would that have done? "Hey, look, we filled out some forms and wrote a check, everything's OK now!"— April 30, 2015 8:45 p.m.
Some seniors seek easy access to suds
I've never understood the argument that there are "too many liquor licenses". And? It isn't like people are driving down the street, "Better not drink... there's a bar... better not drink... there's a bar... better not drink... there's a bar, oh crap, I gotta stop and get a drink." If there are a lot of places wanting to sell booze, it's probably because a lot of people want to buy booze. If you restrict the number of places that can sell it, all you're doing is picking and choosing winners and losers, deciding by government edict who gets to make money rather than letting a free market figure it out. If there truly are "too many" licensees, then average sales will drop and some will decide to stop selling booze because it just isn't profitable. The market will achieve equilibrium and deliver the correct number of liquor stores selling the correct amount of booze at the correct price.— April 30, 2015 7:53 a.m.
Beginning of the backlash
Never talk to a reporter. They no longer "report"... they use what you said to advance their pre-determined agenda.— April 30, 2015 7:48 a.m.
Port District parking cost to rise
I'm all for it... as the number of spaces dwindle, the price should go up; and vice-versa. I'd rather be able to find a spot and choose whether or not to pay that price than circle around endlessly looking for "cheap" spots that don't exist. My time is worth more than a couple of dollars.— April 22, 2015 8:44 a.m.
Put that in your pipeline and smoke it
But... but... big government and regulations were going to save us! Wait, I know, we should have MORE government and regulation and bureaucrats. Surely another layer or two will save us.— April 22, 2015 8:34 a.m.
Worries near Gillespie Field
"Hey, look, a great deal on a house! Let's buy this one! OH NO, we saw it was right next to an airport, but we figured they'd operate the airport at our convenience! We've been screwed! We've been shafted! This is unfair! The rest of the world must adapt to us!" Friggin' idiots.— April 20, 2015 4:26 p.m.
Bicycle trap
You can be "right" and dead at the same time. The laws of physics disagree with your interpretation of the vehicle code. Stay off of busy roads, stick to quiet side streets. You'll be much better off.— April 20, 2015 4:23 p.m.
