Chargers, mayor, U-T collude on con job
Wish there was a "downvote" option for silly tripe like this.— October 4, 2016 2:14 p.m.
Mustang hate
He said the first one in Des Plaines, not the first one ever.— October 4, 2016 2:09 p.m.
Fallen tree costs city
Now, where's the old biddy who got all upset because the City wanted to cut down a tree in front of her house (which she planted in the right-of-way decades ago)? Can we make sure SHE pays the bills for that one?— October 4, 2016 2:04 p.m.
San Diego’s most overrated burgers
Dead-on about Slaters 50/50... it's hype and nothing but. Simply not a good burger. In 'N Out, though, is the best burger deal. Not the best burger, not by a long shot... but for what you get, it's a fantastic deal. You can pay a little less for a much worse burger; or a lot more for a better one, but In 'N Out occupies a sweet spot on the price scale!— September 19, 2016 11:09 a.m.
Mira Mesa braces for mega population growth
Can we ever stop building? What happens when all of San Diego is paved over with 100 story apartment buildings, and still more people want to crowd in? If you don't build it, they can't come. There is no "shortage" of housing... we just need to tell people who cannot afford to live here that pretty much everywhere else in the country is more affordable, and they just need to go there. Quit with the childish "social justice" nonsense. Life isn't fair. It isn't a huge injustice that you don't get everything you want. Sometimes you have to compromise and accept reality.— September 19, 2016 11:05 a.m.
Signature-gatherer falsely claims petition will save Comic-Con
This again. Just as the Chargers aren't going anywhere anytime soon, ComiCon isn't going anywhere. Where are they going to go? Anaheim Convention Center is the most-touted destination, but it provides maybe 100,000 sq. ft. more of exhibit space than San Diego, or a ~12% increase. And that in a facility that's a million square feet smaller. The ONLY other possible destination is Las Vegas, and they've said they don't want to go there. Just like the Chargers, they're very eager to have the San Diego taxpayer pick up the tab to allow them to improve their business, but all we have to do is say no. ComiCon has a way to solve their overcrowding problems right now... charge more for badges. When they all sell within minutes, leaving large numbers of people who want to go but can't, demand far exceeds supply. Raise the price (they should probably triple it), and more people who really want to be there vs. lucky lottery winners can go. Yeah, I know what's next... "But a lot of people can't afford to pay more, this is their only chance, blah blah blah!" And THAT'S the type pf attendee we want to attract to San Diego, someone who's put out by a couple of hundred bucks? How much "economic stimulation" do we get from that crowd? I'm unmoved by the plight of the poor ComiCon promoters.— June 8, 2016 2:40 p.m.
General Atomics and Sempra on welfare
Sjtorres didn't mention Social Security. So where does the diatribe come from? And "the economy would not function well without transfer payments"??? Pure bunk. Why is it that you're very concerned about huge sums of money that disappear into "big banks" (given to them by government, I'll add), yet not a word about the far vaster sums that disappear into government and our mounting federal debt? $19 trillion in US debt is "the cost of doing business", but some amount that same government gives to banks is cause to lambaste the banks, but not government? It seems like you're saying ridiculous or absurd things more and more often.— June 8, 2016 2:24 p.m.
General Atomics and Sempra on welfare
Some people think that any company that receives any government money, or any break from paying the government a dollar, is being "subsidized". Those people very literally don't know what the word means. And a lot of them are people who love big government, want more government... but when that government buys products or services from the private sector, oh how they howl! But let's put that aside, and go ahead and say, yeah, these "Big Corportaions" are being subsidized. OK... so that money is going towards creating jobs, buying capital goods, etc. Why isn't that far better than subsidizing indolence? Why is it great and noble to hand money to someone who isn't working and who is completely dependent upon receiving more money each and every future month; but if we send that money to an entity that provides jobs it's some enormous injustice?— June 8, 2016 2:18 p.m.
Bad idea: border-adjacent campground
Only a racist says crime comes across the border! I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell you! Why, it sounds like next thing there'll be a call for a wall instead of compassion and understanding and free housing and health care for the poor, deserving refugees who are storming our country!— June 7, 2016 3:45 p.m.
Rent control protest in O.B.
"Michael Mills has…been paying cash for multi-unit buildings around O.B. and, after 60 days, raising rents..." And? So go buy the property yourself! Rebecca Shulman is a parasite, a grifter. She doesn't want to take on the expenses and taxes and maintenance and depreciation and repairs associated with owning property... no sir, she expects someone else to swallow all of those costs so she can skate through life. She is EXACTLY one of those types of tenants I have to watch out for. I can't afford to have bottom-feeders like her living on my dime. Can't afford San Diego? Move to Oklahoma. Rents are lower, prices are lower, and the minimum wage is the same. You'll be better off.— June 6, 2016 7:11 p.m.
