That's what I get for relying on childhood memory instead of simply looking it up! You are correct - according to Collinwood.net, the Connecticut locales used for the Dark Shadows TV show and movies were as follows:
Essex,Connecticut was the locale used for the town of Collinsport. Among the locations located there are the Collinsport Wharf, Main Street and the Evans Cottage. The town's Griswold Inn was used for the Collinsport Inn and the town Post Office was used for the town Police Station.
Connecticut is also home to the Three Bears Inn--the Collinsport Inn in House of Dark Shadows; and Beechwood--the Old House in House of Dark Shadows, which has since been subdivided into private apartments. Located in nearby Norwalk is the Lockwood Mathews Museum, which provided the abandoned monastery on St Eustace Island seen in the finale of House of Dark Shadows. It is open to the public throughout the year. — June 1, 2011 1:25 a.m.
America's Got Talent, But Does Happy Ron?
With the new AGT season debut this week, Happy Ron reports "Okay, it's official. Right about 28 minutes in, you see Nick Cannon walking down a line of people saying 'lining up to show they got what it takes,' then he shakes my hand. Then a few seconds later, the camera pans up and it's me, Nick Cannon, and a Michael Jackson impersonator. Almost as cool as I hoped."— June 1, 2011 4:51 a.m.

Randy Chiurazzi's Got Talent
Not exactly an original, nor even a new, concept. I saw Mick Fleetwood play his self-made "Sound Suit" at the Belly Up way back in 1988, when he was drumming with Pete Bardens' post-Camel band. Mick did a lengthy standing "solo," hitting different parts of the suit where (presumably) electronic sampler triggers were sewn into or attached to the fabric. The audience was just about as engaged as the above-described AGT judges. Even back at the dawn of the electronica era, and even when "played" by a superstar of Fleetwood's status, mere sound FX aren't very entertaining --— May 28, 2011 7:43 p.m.
100 Worst Album Covers of All Time
Turns out the "Ma, He's Making Eyes At Me" girl had quite a successful - and ultimately tragic - career overseas. She even had her own BBC show, and her "Ma" died of a tranquilizer OD -- dunno why I never thought to look her up before. Another reason to love gawdawful album covers -- oh, the stories they tell -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lena_Zavaroni— May 27, 2011 12:04 a.m.
Carmen Reborn
The new blog setup is still getting the bugs ironed out, I imagine. Tho I'm having the same problem finding them, Nan - if a recent blog entry isn't represented under "50 latest blog comments," ie if no recent comments are logged, it's tough to find even the newest blog posts. Since there's no more room on the mainpage for anything other than the very newest blog titles, perhaps a new button is in order below the blog table - "25 latest blogs posted" ?? All in all, I'm told the new blog format is VERY successful, with blog readership and participation way up. Yay, Team Reader!— May 23, 2011 2:06 a.m.
Donnie Darko Sequel Doesn’t Deserve Bad Rap
Glad you're willing to give it a look-see, Scott, rather than slagging the movie sight unseen, like so many internet trolls at IMDB and on YouTube (where an entire anti-S/D subculture dwells). Liz "Saved by the Stripper Pole" Berkley is essentially comedy relief, with some of the funniest lines she's ever uttered ("This town used to be a decent place. Then came the drugs and anal sex.") Jane, you're right about the "dark cloud" over S. Darko - but, since it's essentially Frank the Bunny's POV this time rather than Donnie's, the blackness is unavoidable. Donnie gets to save his loved ones, his family, his girlfriend, his entire universe. What does Frank and his fellow "manipulated dead" get? They get screwed by that self-same universe. Even tho their function is just as vital to the clockwork of existence as Donnie's. Perhaps even more so, since Donnie was a dumbass until Frank first started blowing up his mind --- I'd counter that the dark can be just as beautiful as the light. Much like the breathtaking -- if empty and deadening -- Utah scenery that wraps around the entire movie.— May 19, 2011 11:01 p.m.
Baby Daddy Schwarzenegger comes clean about love child
The family photo above appears to have been shot at Hooters?! Not trying to be mean, but this unflattering photo of Maria Shriver that's all over today's media reminded me so much of a certain Dark Crystal character that I HAD to paste them side-by-side and post - uncanny, eh?? http://inlinethumb19.webshots.com/45650/277062421…— May 17, 2011 11:12 a.m.
Young Mass Gets Reduced
"News today" is actually news two days ago, as in the story of Mass' charge reduction broke in the Reader's own daily music feature This Just In last Thursday, thanks to a tip I received from Mass' reps enabling us to be the first to report. Thanks for reposting the scoop, mikeh (albeit two days later!) As for "the first interview with Young Mass," a correction: Mass earned his first Reader coverage in 2005, via a Blurt article and interview by Garrett Caples, three years before your 2008 writeup -- http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2005/aug/25/fr… The story behind Mass' most recent legal problems can be found at http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2011/mar/16/bl… Around a dozen other Reader articles have been done about Young Mass, all accessed (and clearly dated) at http://www.sandiegoreader.com/bands/young-mass All part of the Reader's ongoing efforts to provide the most comprehensive -- and up-to-date -- Local Music Database on the internet! Thanks again for (re)posting and linking to Mass' Database page, mikeh --— May 14, 2011 5:45 p.m.
Movies Shot in San Diego: A Force of One (1979)
Wild! If memory serves, that building wasn't being used for boxing any more at the time - it was basically abandoned, with few if any working fixtures. Its spartan appearance was certainly well suited for the scene that took place there! Have you seen the flick since then? When I screened recently, I was surprised to find it pretty decent, for what (and when) it was anyway --— May 12, 2011 11:08 p.m.
Critical Mass
The kidnapping charge -- which would have carried a sentence of five years to life -- was dropped, in favor of a domestic violence conviction. Mass has been sentenced and will be officially released January 6, 2012, perhaps earlier with good behavior.— May 12, 2011 8:42 p.m.
