Picked at and peeved
(I tried to "thumbs up" this article and the comments, but keep getting thrown back to the sign in page, although I am signed in. I've had this problem with before, but then it resolved, now it's back. Odd.) Back to the article-- Don, when bureaucracies go bad, they really go bad. Picker and Peevey are a couple of revolting suits, but it looks like they are a protected species. Has the CPUC listed them with the California Environmental Protection Agency?— April 29, 2015 3:24 p.m.
At least Lorena is trying
One small step for the public, one gigantic leap for decent government.— April 28, 2015 9:45 a.m.
Yes…no...yes to public-financed sports
I looked it up. In 2012, the city of Providence got Brown to agree to pay $4 million to the city every year, I believe until a total of $31 million had been paid. The reasoning was that since Brown is a non-profit, it does not pay real estate tax, and this is much less than real estate taxes would be. So if the city of Providence will be on the hook for $4 million/year to the baseball franchise for this ball field, it sort of looks like Brown is paying for the ball field. In a round-about way.— April 27, 2015 4:41 p.m.
Yes…no...yes to public-financed sports
This is interesting. Providence supposedly doesn't have enough money to run their budget, and has been essentially shaking down Brown University for funds. I sure hope people do not fall for this mess.— April 26, 2015 5:14 p.m.
Double-features from hell!
Wish I could get the arrow to work, so that I could see the 30 ads for the double features! Not sure why, but some time ago this function stopped working (even the top banner for selecting articles)!— April 25, 2015 4:01 p.m.
City hall crimes veiled by anonymity
Just curious, is there any news on that committee for the 100 year celebration of Balboa Park--several million dollars were reported to have gone missing, with nothing to show for it. Didn't the committee members just move on to other comfortable positions? Might be interesting to learn if any missing funds were ever tracked down. At the time, it didn't seem that anyone knew what had happened.— April 24, 2015 4:12 p.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
There is no excuse for the widespread corruption that still lingers in Sweetwater--but getting the info to the public has been more than half the battle!! Some people out there just do NOT want the people to know!!!— April 24, 2015 11:38 a.m.
Married for 22 years, stabbed 30 times
Amazing, when he married Ariflor, Pedro was almost twice her age! He admits to spousal battery. He admits he killed her, with malice aforethought. And he expects to get twenty years. What is the rule of thumb? Does that mean he could be out of jail in 10 years or less? Meanwhile, her life consisted of being a wife and mother at a very young age, bearing many children, being beaten and then killed by the man who married her when she was still a child. This is horrifying.— April 23, 2015 2:31 p.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
I have heard rumblings that all is still not well within Poway. Apparently the superintendent's actions and some of the contract negotiation points do not pass the sniff test.— April 23, 2015 12:15 p.m.
Utilities on the trail to tiers
What does this mean for people who have solar installed? When we who suffer under SDG&E are already paying rates that are the highest for the continental US (I have been told that only Hawaii has higher rates for power), how can it be said that "these prices are so far from cost"?— April 23, 2015 12:09 p.m.
