Cops kick out public from Sweetwater board meeting
"To the rest of the people in the South Bay and the District, it's our money being wasted, it's our kids being abused, it's our community being plundered." That says it all. We need to get this situation under control. We have tried reason, logic, stronger words, group demonstrations...and we get nothing. The big question in my mind then becomes, why is there no backup from the responsible authorities? Will we finally get backup on the fire alarm issues? Or will that be allowed to fizzle out by bureaurocracies staffed and headed by indifferent empty suits? It looks to me as though San Diego has more than their fair share of empty suits. Those who love collecting the paycheck, but never really put in an effort. County Board of Education, are your ears ringing? Has Fast Eddy convinced you that he is untouchable?— October 24, 2013 9:57 a.m.
Donna Frye asks Sweetwater school board to make information available to the public
Kind of indicates a link between sunshine and brain activity--in a negative way. But even that can't explain the how and why of this Sweetwater disaster of a school district, and the out of control crazed behavior of Ed Brand and his army of loyal brain-dead followers.— October 22, 2013 10:25 a.m.
San Diegans sign petition in favor of “Nazi-style Orwellian police state”
Perhaps this is the level of disconnect The Sweetwater Crew of Thieves (Brand, Cartmill, McCann and Ricasa) are counting on. Wouldn't it be great to prove them wrong?— October 22, 2013 10:20 a.m.
Donna Frye asks Sweetwater school board to make information available to the public
Bold moves by Fast Eddy--has the self-appointed king ordered his coach and six? Because that is about the only perk he hasn't already given himself.— October 22, 2013 8:25 a.m.
Alliant University's San Diego campus could be sold
This is a democracy, but watch out: tonight the teachers and the public were removed from the monthly Sweetwater Board Meeting. Ed Brand apparently isn't familiar with some of the basic tenets of democracy--or if he has a passing familiarity with them, he certainly doesn't want the constituency of Sweetwater maintaining any sort of active control. Fast Eddy wants control.— October 21, 2013 11:04 p.m.
Donna Frye asks Sweetwater school board to make information available to the public
Yet another way to demonstrate the vast wasteland that Sweetwater is becoming! Thanks, Ms. Luzzaro for yet another informative and concise news item about what Sweetwater can't do. Sweetwater's administration, lead by Brand and the toadies, yet again try to keep the public unaware. The obvious reason that this board does not want the public to be informed to the degree that the public is entitled to be informed is that THIS BOARD AND ED BRAND ARE ENGAGING IN SYSTEMATIC AND THOROUGH MISMANAGEMENT, FRAUD AND ABUSE of this school system. Egregious and loathsome behavior: unleashing private investigators on citizens who ask questions; calling an employer when a citizen asks questions in a public venue; concocting real estate schemes that are secret arrangements benefitting persons unknown (but educated guesses are allowed); engaging in disingenuous contract negotiations with teachers, and then using good faith agreements to shovel funds to nefarious projects; the list is almost endless. And yet the county B of E and the state B of E say nothing and do nothing. Thank goodness for Donna Frye, the group Californians Aware, Maty Adato, and all others who speak up, sound off and work to get the evil in our midst stopped.— October 19, 2013 3:13 p.m.

The uniformed police officers would haul away anyone who would do such a thing. The atmosphere in a Sweetwater Board Meeting is ugly in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. The slime fairly drips off the walls.— October 18, 2013 12:22 p.m.
The Last Goodbye at the Old Globe
I saw this last Wednesday night, so we may not have seen the same performance. The storyline is very direct, and some shortcuts are taken. It does have a "rock opera" feel for me, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Could it bring some people into the theater (and into what Shakespeare has to offer) who might not otherwise have been open to the experience? I say yes, which is why these creative collaborations can be so enriching for younger people to see. Think of all the variations of Faust, and how exposure to one version can lead to interest in reading or seeing another version. Shakespeare does happen to be the pinnacle, and the language is challenging, so quite a few people are actually afraid of attending a play--which is sad in its own way. So--a production such is this one can break the Shakespeare barrier for some people, and allow them to see they understand more than they thought they would. I liked the music, some moments were stronger than others. (I could have used more of "Hallelujah", but then I could happily listen to that for a very long time!) The band was very strong, the energy levels in their variety very good. It is a young cast for the most part and I do think that some nuances will continue to emerge and performances will gain some depth. The question and answer afterwards was very enlightening as the ensemble nature of the production was mentioned, and it was clear that the performers truly enjoyed working with one another. I think they have something here.— October 18, 2013 11:51 a.m.

Thanks, Susan. I have to educate myself on the concept of a teach out agreement. The enormity of the collection of disastrous schemes of Ed Brand almost leaves me in a state of stupefaction. Perhaps that is what has happened with the County B of E and the State B of E. No one appears to quite know how to take on this brazen creature who never stops sucking the marrow out of workable, decent educational institutions, who grows fat on the destruction of Sweetwater Union High School District and all that he touches.— October 18, 2013 11:22 a.m.
Alliant University's San Diego campus could be sold
You state your case and the case of your fellow students well. There is a reason why those of us concerned with Sweetwater Union High School District are also concerned with what is going on with Alliant--the superintendent of Sweetwater, a certain Ed Brand, is up to his eyeballs in cahoots with your Mr. Cox, and it appears as if neither one of them is up to any good--except perhaps for themselves. It looks to me as if Cox/Brand are trying to set up a west coast small string of class B (mid-range between for profit and not for profit) universities that they could use as cash cows with all the government money for education. You know, Pell grants, GI Bill, the whole shooting match. The real estate deal for the property in North County would give them money to play with, and then some. I hope you students can get organized, get some attorneys and accountants on your side and put up a fuss. Bad publicity and photos in the news might get them to slow down a bit. Creating a stink is one of the few things that will work to slow Ed Brand down, but then he does always retreat to spin more schemes for his own benefit and the detriment of the school district he is supposed to be looking out for. So, activate your campus and try to find out what is really going on. But I am sure there are developers salivating at the thought of all that acreage. You really do need to need to watch out for the opportunists like Ed Brand, and I guess his friend, Mr. Cox.— October 18, 2013 9:31 a.m.
